It’s probably a small relief for the “Rehab” singer’s family to know that illegal drugs are off the table as a contributing factor to her July 23 death. From the LA Times:
Toxicology reports show Amy Winehouse did not have drugs in her system, according to a statement by the “Back to Black” singer’s family. The results, which have not yet been publicly released, indicated that there was alcohol present in her body at the time of death, but it’s unclear in what amount.
Meanwhile, her family has suggested a host of other causes, including emphysema, an irregular heartbeat, too much alcohol in her system, or even too little alcohol. What a horrifying shame it would be if going off booze cold-turkey is what killed her. But at this point, as the LA Times notes, it’s still a mystery.

This report curiously says nothing about prescription drugs. She most likely died from a combo of prescription drugs and booze. Sad.
it’s a very different thing to say there were no illegal drugs or alcohol in her body at the time of death vs “illegal drugs are off the table as a contributing factor” to her death. I think they’re very much still on the table, they are just no longer the direct cause.
@1 I suspect you may be correct. Remember, if BigPharma makes it, it is “medicine” and not “drugs”. Regardless, it is really splitting hairs to claim that her death was not drug-related simply because she didn’t die with a needle in her arm.
Let’s hear it for Amy, folks. One month sober!
Like alcohol isn’t a drug.
Please.
@4, I chortled right there, damn you.
@5 Of course it’s not. It’s legal.
@2 has a good point. She had probably destroyed her liver and heart and who knows what else with coke and heroin, to the point that it wouldn’t take very much of something else, even aspirin, to shut her down. Three paracetamol on top of a fistful of prescription meds and a big slug of vodka, say.
Cienna, can you slap Grant for me? Thanks.
they tried to make me give a shit why amy winehouse died
i said no
no
no
“Toxicology reports show Amy Winehouse did not have drugs in her system…there was alcohol present in her body”
How does this obvious contradiction get reported? Who ever wrote this at the times is either too credulous or too lazy for the job.
Lack of drugs is probably what killed her.
Last I checked, alcohol was a drug. Come on.
