Early Monday morning, a woman spotted two men fighting about 150 feet south of her parking spot on the 1300 block of Alaskan Way, under the viaduct, according to a police report. According to her statement, she “saw the suspect and victim come out from behind a truck fighting,” at which point one man allegedly beat the other man to the ground, and “struck the victim several times in the head with a square shaped object, possibly a broken piece of brick.” The suspect then took off with his own bag.

At 5:57 a.m. SPD Officer Hunter arrived to find the victim leaning up against a building. The officer notes in the report that the victim “said he had pain to his head and arm and may have been ‘cut’ in the back.” The officer then had the victim sit down and looked at his back. There, he saw a “cut about 1″ long on his lower back that was slowly bleeding.”

As the victim describes it, “he was sleeping in the ‘hole’ or space between the … buildings. He was awakened by the suspect assaulting him with his fists and ‘stomping’ on his head. [He] said the suspect is unknown to him and did not know why he was assaulted.”

The reporting officer doesn’t theorize whether the suspect was also homeless. This could have been a fight over sleeping space, but we’ll never know for sure. Either way, fuck this guy (allegedly). Why would anyone think this is okay? (Cue comments on the doe-eyed, naive young intern.)

  3. They can’t sleep on top of the Deeply Trolled Tunnel, that’s where to 20 story condition buildings that will block your views go (see the zoning).

    At least the homeless won’t have to worry about sleeping with the fishes in the Under Sea Level tunnel after a 7 to 9 quake (which we’re due for) happens.

  4. @1, @3, put your shoehorns away. If you’d cared enough to read carefully you might have noticed he wasn’t ambushed under the viaduct but while sleeping between two nearby buildings – buildings that for all we know will still be there long after the viaduct is taken down.
