  1. The headline doesn’t say that the injection caused her death. Simply that it happened after she injected hot beef fat into her face.

  2. the headline certainly implies causation, though. otherwise, no one would bother reading it…”Woman who died of complications from diverticulitis was fond of using squicky home facial fillers that didn’t harm her” doesn’t quite grab readers the same way.

  3. IANADoctor, but it sounds like the suspected cause of death was an infection from a perforated colon. So maybe she got the other kind of hot beef injection first.

  4. Not a nominee for a Darwin Award though. She was 63 and it was too late for her to remove herself from the gene pool. Still, she deserves a mention at the ceremonies.

  5. “Contamination from self-injections investigated, but determined not to be the cause of death”

Thus, even mentioning the injections was superfluous. Isn’t this sort of like the dog collar thing? Hey, let’s embarrass dead people for things unrelated to their passing.

    Grow up.

  6. Yeah, her death was unrelated to her, uh, hobbies.

But her hobbies were still pretty wacko. I can’t imagine homemade, home-performed facial injections have very pretty results.

  7. What the fuck is wrong with people? Every time a dumbass does something stupid, it only gives the “christians” more power. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY PEOPLE !!! NO BEEF IN THE FACE !! (unless you plan on sucking it…)

  8. I’m not sure which facet of the beef fat injections I find most disturbing: simply that she was getting beef fat into her face, or that she was self-administering the beef fat? I’m no stranger to subcutaneous injections (I have type 1 diabetes), but the thought of dissolving beef fat, putting it into a needle, and then injecting that beef fat into your own face strikes me as a bit much.

  9. Fat transfer is one of the most critical operations that requires a thorough understanding on both parties-the doctor and the patient. Performing fat transfer, Botox or other related cosmetic procedures should not be performed by home fanatics, as they can prove harmful. Janet Hardt of Homewood, Ill., is a sad example of how such things can go horribly wrong. Cosmetic injections of hot beef fat led to her demise, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. The woman might have spent her installment loans on something that wouldnโ€™t have killed her.
