  1. @1 Have you ever tried to avoid an object that darts into the road while you’re moving at 35mph+ on a bicycle? I thought not. Those were unavoidable collisions, whether or not the cyclists had performance-enhancing drugs in their systems.

  2. LOL … good point Goldy!

@2 If your point is valid, then trying to do that at 45+ (often 65+) would be harder, correct? Not that I disagree with you on it, just pointing out that cars have the same issue.

  3. >>Hernandez is 100% correct. You don’t swerve on a bicycle >>at those kinds of speeds.

So what your saying is that bikes, by design, cannot manuever at all at speeds as low as 30 mph? Why are they even allowed on the freaking road!?

  4. What I’m saying, Kinison, is that a 12-pound titanium racing bike is pretty twitchy at 35+ MPH, and you’re going to end up with the world’s worst case of road rash (at best) if you make any quick, sharp movements. I’ve done it. That doesn’t mean it’s not maneuverable.

  5. Anyone else see how those dogs tried to take out those cyclists? DAMN… Good thing they can’t drive cars.

Sorry, had to throw some fuel on the fire. Had to be done.

  6. Should have held out for some pit bulls taking out bikes…setting up the very impressive, and highly elusive “Wordless Double Troll” post. Almost there with this one but the animal rights crowd doesn’t appeared to have shown up yet.

  7. @13

Long ago I read about an American who confronted–or probably merely asked–a Parisian about the poop she was letting her dog poop on the street, and she simply said, “I pay my taxes.”

  8. And number 16 finally gets it right. This is the dumbest string of comments on one of the dumbest troll posts ever. Not surprising who took the bait though…..

  9. @17, Parisians are rightly proud that they pay terrific taxes in order to have terrific services performed by a truly amazing number of city workers they are glad to help employ.

  10. @21 “Kinison is a fucking toll. An ignorant, hateful troll”

Uh-oh, someone is about to have a roid rage fit, stand back everyone, emor is about to blow!

  11. @26 In danger of derailing the conversation, often those who accuse people of being trolls know nothing of what the word means. Though I disagree with your position, just remember, the people tossing around the word troll are generally tweenager wannabes (I can misuse labels to) or internet newbies that only post on blogs and forums without ever breaking out of their little boxes. It’s like the kids that stood by watching other kids be bullied by other kids, they’re the kids standing by commenting on it without getting involved.

  12. I feel really sorry for the dog and the cyclist. I hope someone ran over the owner.

@9- The bikes have all been carbon fiber for the last decade or so, titanium is more expensive and harder to shape aerodynamically. Also in the TdF bikes have a minimum weight of 6.8 kilos. But there’s nothing that would have been able to swerve away from the dog at that speed, given the rider couldn’t see the dog until about half a second before impact. And given that it was a closed race course you can’t blame the guy for racing.

  13. Did you know Dog spelled backwards is God?

Just remember, Troll Avenue is still closed, so beware of too many trolls who are feeling restless, or have Wrestlers Leg Syndrome.

  14. @7: Bikes and motorcycles are both less maneuverable at speed than cars, because of basic physics. People often think otherwise because bikes are very maneuverable at low speeds, but at high speed a car can change direction more easily than a two-wheeled vehicle, because the two-wheeled vehicle has to establish a roll angle first. Going from turning in one direction to turning in the other is especially slow on a bike. It’s just the physics of it.

Bikes also tend to have longer stopping distances; bikes have small contact patches and can’t use weight transfer effects to full advantage because of the danger of doing a “stoppie.”

  15. Here’s how I imagine the Slog editorial meeting:
“We need to drum up hits, our advertisers are starting to wonder if it’s worth it”
Dominic: “THE TUNNEL! I COULD POST MORE ABOUT THE TUNNEL!”
“No, dumbass, you lost that one. It’s over.”
Cienna: “CHIHULY! THAT GETS PEOPLE RILED UP!!!!”
“No, dumbass, you lost that one. It’s over.”
Goldy: “JAPAN!!11! I COULD POST MORE INCENDIARY POSTS ABOUT HOW EVERYONE IS RADIOACTIVE!!”
“No, dumbass, those posts get like zero hits.”
Mudede: “In situations like this Marx would say…”
    “Shut the fuck up”.
    Dan: “I could…”
“You’re the only one generating hits around here, let’s see what someone else can come up with.”
Christopher: “IS THE LIQUOR STORE OPEN YET?!”
    Dominic: “GUIZE!!1!! I KNOW!!!! WAR ON BICYCLEZ!!!111!!!”
    “Make it happen.”

  16. @26 – Says the man who said “shut up cunt” to keshmeshi in another thread (talk about a roid rage fit) and now this little defensive blurb too.

#21’s point appears to be proven.

  17. @36, for the record, I have never called Kesh a cunt. A couple other people, sure, but not her. So I guess you’re full of shit too.

  18. @41: No 5280, Donolectic was talking about Kinison, not you. And I think the unregistered @35 may be close to correct in their guess as to how this series of posts of bikes vs whatever the fuck got approved in the first place.
