Capitol Hill Seattle says that after more than 18 years, Charles Mudede’s old favorite the Rosebud is closing on Sunday (as does the place’s Facebook). Charles opines that since the Rosebud changed ownership not long ago and everybody’s favorite bartender Robert left, this was inevitable. But still, he says, it is very sad.

The Rosebud owners “plan to relocate to a new venue just a few blocks from this location,” even though a dispute over back rent was an issue at the current location.

(Has anyone seen Robert?) UPDATE! Darling Adrian Ryan says “robert is at Olympic Pizza [that is, The Bar at Olympia Pizza] on 15th I think. And everyone should celebrate/mourn on Thursday at The Vaudvillians! I am.” UPDATE UPDATE! The people at Olympia Pizza say no Robert. Adrian Ryan apologizes for his faulty brain.

  1. Is it still carpeted? I never went after the fire. It felt weird getting drunk with carpet under my feet, like we weren’t supposed to be there.

  2. Rosebud was such a lovely, dark, romantic place. You could get a stiff drink and decent food and it was usually quiet enough that you could relax and have a conversation. Robert was a gem. Once the new owners came in, everything went to hell. RIP Rosebud.

  3. Was Robert the one who always had to tell you (at tedious length) about how he was from New York?

(I haven’t been to Rosebud in ten years. Robert could have come and gone since I was last there)

  4. Nooooooooo! Such a great location. It was a great place to study while I was going to school at both SCCC and the UDub.
Damn, every time I go back to visit so many things change–some good, many bad. And yet that hole of a bar Neighbours lingers on like an infected hang nail.

  5. I guess I should just resolve to be at peace with all of 90s Seattle disappearing. Good luck, everyone.

(I’ve been over my loss of youth for a long time, but I still get a little upset when reminders of my youth – all the great good times here and there – pass into history.)

Seattle belongs to someone else now.

  6. Robert sighting…I saw him up on 15th walking slowly as usual and lookin real content. he said he is not working anywhere, just spending time in new york and up on orcas and napping and reading worrying full time about his mother. While we were talking he complained about his back, his hips and his knees and then someone walked by involved in a really loud cellphone conversation and he fled back to his sanctuary.
