Occupy Everywhere! Today. Westlake Park. Noon. Occupy Seattle.

Dog Hoarders Raided: A raid on two properties in Issaquah and Burien uncovered over 100 dogs held in poor conditions. Just to add to the tragic imagery: most of the dogs were “Chihuahuas, Pomeranians and Chins.”

Settlement Reached in Abuse Case: Even though the state Department of Health and Human Services agreed to pay a $4.6 million settlement to two Carnation siblings abused by their parents, “agency leaders didn’t apologize for failing to act when the abuse was first reported three years before the girl and her brother were removed from the home.”

Damn Right: The Justice Department is appealing the ruling of an Alabama federal judge approving the state’s terrifying anti-immigration legislation.

Amish-on-Amish Violence: A “renegade” group of Amish in eastern Ohio are suspected of cutting the beards and hair of fellow Amish. This makes me really sad.

Pay Attention, Super Rich People: The cast of The Simpsons has agreed to take a pay cut in order to stay on the air.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong? A computer virus has hit the the U.S. drone fleet.

See Above Headline: The State Department is rushing to prepare its civilian operation in Iraq, the biggest since the Marshall Plan. The plan includes an estimated 16,000 civilians.

Even the Dalai Lama Uses Google+: When the Dalai Lama couldn’t attend Desmond Tutu’s 80th birthday party after the South African government didn’t issue him a visa, “He sent his birthday greetings in a video posted Friday on his office’s website and planned to take part in a Google+ video Hangout to be shown at the inaugural Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture on Saturday.”

Every College Student Studying Abroad in Europe is Weeping: The Dutch government is reclassifying high-strength pot to put it in the category of hard drugs. Coffee shops will have to take these varieties off the shelves.

  1. Killer computers. I wonder if the Drones could be taken over and turned on our own troops? It does bring up some troubling questions. Like how the hell it happened? Who was behind it? I’m going to guess and say Iran.

  2. That horrendously despicable Rebecca Long served only 3.5 years for torturing her daughter in ways that would make Hitler wince. People caught with child porn get five times that. It will never make a lick of sense to me.

  3. “Pay Attention, Super Rich People”

when simpsons cast members are getting paid $250K PER EPISODE, down from $400K PER EPISODE, i think they fall into the 1% super rich category as well. hell, i’d be happy just to get $250K a year.

  4. Thanks, @2 and 3. The Occupyseattle website confirms (for those of us still foolishly resisting the lure of Facebook)

Time for March on 10/8 has moved to 5PM
Posted by StianK on Sat, 10/08/2011 – 00:52

Per the decision made at the 10/7 General Assembly. The march originally planned for Noon on 10/8 has been moved to 5PM. This is to support the Indigenous people’srally also being held at Westlake tomorrow from Noon to five. The organizers of this event have spoken in solidarity with our movement and we want to show respect and solidarity with them.

There WILL be many other activities among occupiers going on all day at West lake, so please come down for those. It is specifically the march that has been moved.

  5. @1, 2, 8) Slog never reported on a march at noon. The rally at Westlake Park begins at noon–and folks should go to that. Yesterday, the general assembly was considering a time for a march–they briefly considered beginning at noon, according so sources I spoke to. They ultimately settled on 5:00 p.m. See you there!

  6. That Alabama anti-immigrant law is having all sorts of unintended consequences that are destroying the state and turning even hard conservatives against the teabagging morons they elected. I was just reading how renewing your car tabs, which you used to be able to do online or in a few minutes, now requires proof of citizenship in person, and so the “Beason lines” at the DMV are ten hours long. It’s also destroying the state’s farm economy, which is practically all they have. Schools and local tax districts are wiped out, families are split up — it’s a real crisis. It is now a felony for undocumented workers to possess WATER, or to try to acquire some.

  7. The Simpson’s is still on the air? Good God…have they had a relevant episode in the past decade? I’ve long since left them and headed to the loving arms of Stewie Griffin and Brian Griffin for my cartoon fix.

  8. What is the route of the march at 5pm? I guess it won’t be hooking up with the Sounders march to the match at 6pm from Occidental, right? (sarcasm)

  9. Also, too, Tennessee. Fuck the backward barnyard government of the south: this woman could vote freely during Jim Crow days and now she might not be able to vote because some dipshit thought it cute to embody Kafka.

  10. @10, that’s a disgraceful situation – thanks for the links.

@9, thanks for confirming Slog hadn’t reported on it yet, and that – as the website quote confirmed – the march was separate from the noon rally, and for being gracious as ever.

  11. Show up at Noon, have fun, then come back at 5 for the Obligatory Clocks Rule Your Life Parade …

Ever wonder why nobody takes you seriously?

Cause you’re unorganized and smoke too much leafy green …
