In the last week, you’ve probably started noticing the phrase “AWESOME PERSON” appearing next to the names of certain Slog commenters.

These humans are giving food to other humans who are hungry. That’s all.

They’ve donated, in other words, to the…

In just a week, Slog has raised $6,840 more than Gawker! (206.)

All the money goes to Northwest Harvest—and since we know that the number of hungry families in Washington state has almost doubled in the last three punishing years, we think this is worth your time. Consider. We already know you are awesome.

  1. I’m curious about the total donations, not just the difference. Is there a link to see the numbers? Or is the idea not to disclose the total?

  2. @1, maybe you’ll find this, in Jen’s usage, “elucidating”: there was no competition. The mock Gawker battle was just to get us to donate. See how it worked? We thought we were playing with the big boys so we chipped in a little more. All’s fair in love and charity.

  3. @1, Another source of info would be Rotary clubs. The Redmond Rowsers regularly volunteers our time and talent to Northwest Harvest, and some of us help in other ways

@2, if you’re not into helping people in need in hard times, go stuff it

  4. Damn, you mean we’ve only raised $6,840? On the one hand, I’m happy to know the total. On the other, I’m embarrassed that I let the “journalists” at the Stranger fool me. Can’t we trust the media anymore? First FOX now the Stranger!

  5. @5, did you just tell Gloomy Gus to “go stuff it”? Well-played, nimrod! Especially since I see an “Awesome Person” donation tag by his name but not by yours.

  6. I suspected something was up when I didn’t see anything about this on the Gawker page when I checked a couple times. I promptly forgot and donated anyways.

If I recall correctly, I read that every $.67 feeds a family of three. In which case we fed 4583 families a holiday meal. Not bad. For a bunch of reprobates.

  7. I’m an Awesome Person and that makes me better than people who aren’t. It’s just facts.

And for those in the audience who take umbrage at the arrogance of my statement, you know what would really show me up? If everybody was an Awesome Person, and therefore nobody could feel superior to anybody. Donate today and level the playing field! That’ll put a jerk like me in my place.
