King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson is running to be the next attorney general here in Washington. How cool is he? We at The Stranger just endorsed him! A progressive liberal, Bob was one of the candidates invited by the Washington Bus to speak on stage at the Capitol Hill Block Party.

He showed up at the Block Party wearing cowboy boots to introduce Youth Lagoon (who went on to play a great show).

Bob was invited last year, and “had a blast,” so when he was invited back, he was thrilled.

“It’s one of the best events of the year for the campaign,” he said. Unfortunately, having 4-year-old twins means Mr. Ferguson had to hustle home to help his bride (he used that word) get them to bed.

Next, I took on the persona of a drunk 21 year old who doesn’t care about votingโ€””Why should I vote, man?!

“Well, the attorney general is the person who has the power to take on powerful interests,” Bob said. After a blank stare from me that said “less talking points, more utility,” he rephrasedโ€””it’s the lawyer for the state.”

Bob thinks it’s important for young folks to vote, especially this year with marriage equality on the ballot. Just how important on a scale of one to 10 is it, Bob?

“To quote Spinal Tap, it’s an 11.”

His speech to open for Youth Lagoon was short and sweet – he gave three reasons why he should be the next attorney general: 1) He will take on powerful interests who break the law, 2) he will defend marriage equality, and 3) he is endorsed by Planned Parenthood and environmental groups.

Bob Ferguson, ladies and gentlemenโ€”Washington’s next attorney general… if you vote for him, which you totally should.
