A two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees.
Hear that? No conspiracies. No heinous errors in judgment. The Obama Administration reacted as best it could. There was some confusion at the time, but it wasn’t a cover-up. Nobody “acted in bad faith or intentionally misled the American people.” This is the sixth seventh such investigation to find no wrongdoing.
The last Republican investigation to find the Obama Administration not guilty was also announced on a Friday night. And in the time since that last announcement, Republicans have only spread more lies and disinformation about what happened at Benghazi. They will not let it die. There’s another investigation happening right now, and if they find no wrongdoing on the Obama Administration’s behalf, they’ll probably release that information on a Friday night, too. This is cowardly, irresponsible governance. How much money are American taxpayers putting into these bullshit panels and investigatory sessions? Maybe Republicans should investigate that and let us know.
