I don’t normally post about current eBay™ auctions, but this thing, Throbbing Gristle‘s 24 Hours live cassette box suitcase set, got my attention.
This is the incredibly scarce original box set of 26 Throbbing Gristle cassettes in a black briefcase. (It) Contains 23 live and 3 cassettes of recordings made at the studios of Industrial Records limited. There are around 200 of these all individually numbered (this is #116 supplied to “Kevin Combs”). Each set is personalized to the buyer and dated. Each copy is unique with hand-made collages on each of the primary (signed) information card.
Throbbing Gristle were an experi-MENTAL/noise/performance group active from the mid ’70s till the middle of 1981. In that time, TG released a handful of highly rated studio albums, but their LIVE shows were where they could improvise, expand, and perhaps even confront.
A version of this suitcase set was issued in 2002 on compact disc as TG24 (with a 10-disc second volume set later released as TG+), but I could only imagine CDs being for playing, while the cassette set would be a TG collector’s holy grail.
