ABC News has released a clip of a new interview with Hillary Clinton, in which she apologizes for using a private server as Secretary of State. “I’m sorry,” she says. She called her decision to use the server a “mistake” for which she is “taking responsibility.” She then claims that she’s trying to be as transparent as she possibly can. Since the scandal broke, Hillary’s handed over 55,000 pages of e-mails, but only after deleting over 30,000 that she and her staff deemed “private.”

This straightforward apology marks an abrupt change in Clinton’s characteristically combative stance on the issue. Just yesterday, reporters asked Clinton why she wouldn’t apologize, and she said: “What I did was allowed. It was allowed by the State Department. The State Department has confirmed that.”

Hillary’s “honesty and trustworthiness” numbers have been dropping in the polls as a result, some say, of this scandal. This apology won’t change the hearts and minds of the haters, but now that she’s finally admitted fault, now that she’s said she’s done something wrong—possibly the hardest thing for a lawyer and a politician to do—perhaps we can all move on to the real issue: Benghazi.
