I was surprised as anyone else that Ed Sheeran popped up on Game of Thrones last night. I feel no need to hate on his cameo—I happen to think he’s a well-meaning ginger even if I’m not at all into his UK pop—but damn, did he ever churn up some social media hate-spewing, not to mention inspiring a whole new slew of memes. All of it provides a pretty clear indication of why Sheeran has decided to stop reading Twitter. Oh, and the fact that he said he’s stopped.

“Twitter’s a platform for that,” he continued. “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it. The head-fuck for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

He hasn’t outright removed himself from the tweeting domains, although after all this new flack, he might be re-thinking his decision. Check out the Twitter storm (and a few memes) below. Then take our quiz—who would you actually like to see making cameos on Game of Thrones?
