SECS Fest Presents DRILLER
Full moon, close to midnight, Jheri curl, a red jacket with too many zippers. All signs point to… Driller? It might (or might not) surprise you that Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller music video got an X-rated parody treatment back in 1984, and it’s every bit as bizarre as you might imagine. What started as a cheeky riff on Jackson’s cultural phenomenon somehow became a full-fledged Gothic nightmare, courtesy of adult-film veterans and horror enthusiasts Joyce James and Timothy Green Beckley. Starring adult film actress Taija Rae as an obsessed fan of a pop superstar named “Mr. J,” this low-budget horror musical swaps Hollywood polish for homemade monster effects, original songs, and enough eerie fog to fill a graveyard. (The Beacon Cinema, Columbia City, $15)
