It’s a new day, motherfucker.

—Binary Star, “Conquistadors”

Here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. Hi guys…
It’s a new year—excuse me—it’s about to be. What do
you want to see happen different in Seattle hiphop in ’08? What do you
see happening different in Seattle hiphop already? The playing
ground of performing music in town is slowly changing (RIP to the
Crocodile
), so get in where you fit in. Do be wary of those
legions of simps, sycophants, and bloodsuckers.
Don’t ever forget
that the power in this scene belongs to the fans, to the artists;
managers, promoters, and the like have exactly as much pull as you give
them. In music, as in real life, everybody’s gotta get theirs, usually
with no regard at all given to future generations. Ya boy Pac once said, “Do what you gotta do,” but he made sure he followed that
with one disclaimer: “Stay true.”

Here’s one development that, if properly supported, could result in
the good kind of change. Dyme Def‘s joint “GameNeedsMe” just hit
rotation on good ol’ KUBE 93. Support ya boys and encourage those
pop-happy motherfuckers at KUBE to keep playing that 206 shit; simply
bombard them with calls at 421-9393 or e-mail ’em a request. Just hit
up karenwild@kube93.com,
yadig?

On Sunday, December 30, the Showbox Sodo brings you a little-known
crew called Wu-Tang Clan. Yes, the dudes who brought you some
great memories from Bumbershoot will be rocking, and hopefully, rocking
a lot of shit off the awesome new 8 Diagrams album, which has
gotta be the best Wu album in ages, since Wu Forever maybe?
Anyway, I don’t know what Rae and Ghost‘s problem
is—that shit is fire. Buy you a copy now, study up, and
slavishly, stannishly rap along with every word as they take the stage.
Those three bad brothas I mentioned before, Dyme Def, are
opening, along with Cancer
Rising
(now can I get a SUUUU?)

and Furious Styles.

Not sure what to actually get into this New Year’s Eve? I’m very
curious about a shindig being thrown by the Seattle Wolves FC (that
stands for Football Club, like futbol, like soccer, son!) and
107.7 The End, a 21+ concert with performances by the Blakes and
the Saturday Knights at the Starfire Sports and Entertainment
Complex in Tukwila. If you absolutely feel the need to stand in a crowd
of shiny-shirted motherfuckers and pop bottles with (busted-down,
wanna-be) models, do your thing, but I’m wild p-noid that the
terrorists are gonna try to kill all the assholes at once this NYE. The
smart money’s on getting the fuck outta Dodge. recommended
