I saw this photo last night on ABC News, and found it so odd I couldn’t stop staring at it.

Then I thought it should have a caption, but I’m no good at kooky captions. The best I could come up with is “Look at me, I’m President Bush and on my left is Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and on my right is French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and some of us look like we’re in front of a green screen and others of us look like old Muppets and still others of us just look sad.”

Perhaps you can do better.

  1. The French Finance Minister looks distrubingly like Allison Janney from West Wing; maybe that part of why this is so easy to stare at in a surreal fashion.

  2. This is the most haunting and serious caption I think about when I see these:

“They’re going to be looking at these pictures in the future like they look at the black and white ones now before the depression, or of Nixon, or of really sad times in America. We are a part of that. This is how it happens. I am glad that the camera can’t see that I am soiling myself.”

  3. At the annual World Leaders and their Financial minister/secretary spelling bee, President Bush attempts to buy some time when given the word,”irreparable”.
“Could I have the definition please?”
    “Your administration.”
“Could you use the word in a sentence?”

  4. “Jesus, when we talked to him about the need for America to start producing more widgets, I thought for sure he knew what we meant by ‘widgets’.”
