A three-day all-ages music and arts festival, Expo ’86 will
take place from October 24–26 at Seattle galleries No
Space, Cairo (which was opened June 7 by artists and
20Twenty owners Joel Leshefka and Justine Ashbee), and Spencer Moody’s
curiosity shop, The Anne Bonny.
Thirty-three local bands, including the cream of Seattle’s
singer-songwriter crop, will be playing over the course of the
festival’s jam-packed weekend. Getting things started right will be
Left Field Dance, a modern choreography unit that’s sure to get
the party poppin’ off at Cairo on Friday night. The next afternoon,
rebel funk-punk duo Flexions will combine Devin Welch’s freakish
herk-jerk guitar, Robin Stein’s rumbling low end, and sweet vintage
drum machines to create druggy black-hole instrumentals powerful enough
to warp your brain. That night, soulful popsters Katharine Hepburn’s
Voice will rock No Space with singer Shannon Perry’s syrupy sweet
pipes and upbeat, Casio-powered sing-alongs. Also appearing throughout
the festival’s three days is Damien Jurado (performing as
Hoquiam), Tiny Vipers, Michael Vermillion,
Night Canopy, and Angelo Spencer, among others.
