Sweet Christmas! While I was busy worrying about publishing, Hollywood ate itself today: Defamer reports that MTV and Paramount have laid off hundreds of employees, over a thousand people were fired at Viacom and NBC, and there have been cuts at The Hollywood Reporter and People Magazine. Dear God, not People!
(And if you’re wondering why the last three posts on Slog are exclusively by me, it’s because everyone else has caught some sort of Tijuana Death Bug and so they are at home, spitting blood into porcelain bowls. It is literally just Dave Segal and I in our offices, our lonely keyboards clickety-clacking at each other. I am cold. Someone hold me.)

CNN shut down its science reporting division, headed up by Miles O’Brien, too
yall are next
@1: Wait a minute, the guy’s name is seriously Miles O’Brien? Omg, DS9 in real life! /nerd
/hold
i am SO holding you paul
I hope I’m not getting anything, I slept in much later than I usually do today. uh oh.
*patpat* Poor Paul. Get Well Soon, Slog.
Never lick the doorknobs in Tijuana. I thought you guys were smarter than that…
I think they told Paul they were going home “sick”, but in reality they are all out drinking egg nog and sitting on Santa Lindy’s lap. Or, that ticking noise Paul is hearing is his immune system counting down to Blood Puke Armageddon.
Hugs Paul.
I’m still here and you went home 15 minutes ago Paul.
Well then, hugs to you too Grant.
@ 9: We’re in different offices. Your office is warm and full of life and not at all a lifeless catacomb that crushes and kills your spirit. Plus, you’ve still got all that Rize in your office.
Oh crap, and I just sat on Lindy Claus’ lap barely 45 minutes ago.
Shit, SHIT! Where did I put that porcelain bowl?
Shouldn’t that be “just Dave Segal and me in our offices?”
Seriously, I’m wondering.
Maybe Viacom will fire all the people who make shows on MTV and they can start playing music videos again like God intended.
If Viacom owns E!, they should get rid of everything except The Soup.
@15: All Soup, all the time! If MTV showed nothing but videos and E! showed nothing but The Soup, I’d be tempted to get cable again.
So Paul, are you a good looking guy?
Paul @11, ‘Rize’ actually exists? I just finished William Gibson’s “Spook Country” and assumed it was a Japanese designer drug he invented as a plot point…
I will hold you, Paul.
Tijuana Death Bug? Is that what they are calling the clap nowadays?
The “remake” titles listed in the Defamer link provide perfect reasons why Hollywood should be downsizing, recession or not. I mean, come on, a remake of “Arthur”? Whoever pitched that should be fired, along with anyone who green-lighted it. Along with whoever okayed a “Romancing the Stone” remake and sequel to “Repo Man.” Come on Hollywood, don’t make me come down there…
