Just so we’re clear, my Strangercrombie gaming auction isn’t just a playdate. Granted, there is that. You will come to either my house or a more enjoyable public place like a bar, and you will play whatever video games of mine you’d like. In addition, you can send requests for certain games, and I will do my damnedest to round said games up. If you are completely clueless about video games, I will explain what the fuck is going on.
I will also say “it’s-a me, Maaaahrio” on command, if you’d like, but only once. Sadly, this isn’t even the dorkiest thing I’ve done for a local charity.
Thankfully, this Strangercrombie auction comes with actual swag as well—a limited edition Zune filled with Gears of War 2 content, and tickets to that Video Games Live! concert series in which old game songs are turned into orchestrated digi-bliss. You can even elect to not hang out with me and simply enjoy the swag. You’re welcome, anti-social bidders.
Figures that Strangercrombie runs right alongside Child’s Play, the Penny Arcade-run charity for children’s hospitals all over the country (and some of the world). Our charity is better than their charity, obvs. But I promised someone that I’d link to their timely shit, so check these: a fancy charity dinner next week, whose tickets stop selling in about three hours; and a charity concert at the Nectar Lounge next week run by the ridiculous awesometowners at local games shop Pink Godzilla. The latter will have Rock Band 2 kiosks and real bands alongside ’em; the former will have some insane nerd swag to bid on. Go forth and give, nerds.

Zunes are for dorks. Though I hear Obama has one.
“Our charity is better than their charity, obvs. . . “
Now, I love you Slog. I really do. But Child’s Play, and the empire that is Penny Arcade, is in a league of it’s own. The amount of money they accrue, the overwhelming numbers of their fan base and supporters- they could crush you like a Bug! Crushing a smaller bug!
Zunes are really lame.
Still, one would think the bidding would be higher for the Ladies of SLOG calendar than for your gaming activity …
I’d bid on it, if I lived in or around Seattle. As I don’t, there’s not much of a point. Still, it’d be fun.
@4: Ditto. I bought some books for my local hospital through Child’s Play though, so, still good on the Seattle charity scene.
Strangercrombie is nothing like Child’s Play. At all.
The difference is that Strangercrombie is within reason. Strangercrombie doesn’t, year after year, absolutely stagger the rational mind with its magnitude. Strangercrombie doesn’t nearly reduce me to weeping with the outpouring of generosity it provokes.
Uh…. they’re all charities. Who gives ANYONE the right to say one charity is better than another? They’re both doing good, why isn’t that good enough?
I would like to bids on this, tell me, Should the playdate involve hot-gay-fucking, can the its meeeeee mario! be shouted as a cumshot?
-Fenrox <— ACTUALLY CURIOUS ABOUT THIS.
@9: No. This couldn’t be a more platonic, asexual auction.
@the rest: I am well aware of the staggering numbers of Child’s Play, and I love how it mobilizes the gaming community to do good. The “our charity is better than their charity” line seemed like an obvious joke to me at the time.
