In a move that will no doubt make Fox super-excited, Simpsons actress Nancy Cartwright is using her Bart voice to shill for an upcoming Scientology event at Hollywood & Highland.

Defamer also has the evidenceโ€”a voicemail message left by Nancy/Bart her/himself. Listen and squirm.

  1. At least she’s not a Mormon.

I wish I had more time to concoct my own religion. How do you think the recession will affect the formation of new cockamamie cults?

  2. She shouldn’t do the Bart voice without a writer. The thinks she thinks of to say with it are inane, and completely out of place interspersed into the rest of that message. It makes her sound slightly insane.

  3. @9: If she left, and they hired a replacement, I’d personally write a letter to Groening stating I’d be watching every episode, and buying every boxed set they produced from then on that did not include Nancy Cartwright’s work. Unfortunately Bart is a larger player in The Simpsons than Chef was on SP.

  4. I’m an atheist and to me, this Scientology stuff is no crazier than the cults of Judiasm, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Shinto or Islam…

Never mind the cult of personalities worshiped on Defamer, or the cult of fandom worshiping a cartoon character…

  5. @11

Yes, it is crazier, because it’s been documented that L. Ron Hubbard invented it on his own on a bar bet about making up a religion for the sole purpose of making money. You can act like a dick and be all “all religions are cults! all religions are the same!” or give atheists a good name and acknowledge that some beliefs are dumber than others.

  6. agree with keshmeshi…that shit is old and tired.

Cartwright also gave what was reported to be a years salary, ($10,000,000.00) to the Scientologists last year.

  7. @12, I don’t believe in anything supernatural, so origins of the various cults don’t interest me anymore than the preposterousness of their beliefs. From my vantage point, none of the various religions are any less (or more) valid than the other. Scientology is just the newest shell game on the sidewalk.

Also, as an atheist I have no worry about how my opinions reflect on other atheists, since we have nothing in common.
