A local preacher is found guilty on three of seven counts of sexual assault. A Kanawha County jury found Timothy Edmonds guilty on Wednesday of sexually abusing a female teen student at his church’s school. Edmonds was an assistant minister at Chesapeake Apostolic Church. Oregon:
A former youth pastor accused of sex crimes has been arraigned on accusations he sharpened a toothbrush for use as a weapon in the Baker County Jail.
Dean Barnes has been charged with possession of a weapon by an inmate, supplying contraband and criminal mischief. Sheriff Mitch Southwick said this week that Barnes sharpened the toothbrush by rubbing it against concrete in his jail cell…. Michigan:
The ACLU of Michigan has sent a letter to the superintendent of South Haven Public Schools asking the school to change their policy of allowing a local youth minister and lunchroom volunteer to proselytize students in the lunchroom during school hours.
The letter, sent to superintendent Robert Black, urges the school to prevent Mike Dubbink, the youth minister at Hope Reformed Church in South Haven, from recruiting students for his church and speaking to them about religion while acting as a lunchroom volunteer at the middle and high schools.

Alright, I’ll fall for it – what’s up with the last one? A bunch of youth pastors might be scum, but now it’s bad just when they get married? This blurb doesn’t say that the girl is underage or anything, so I don’t see how it’s relevant.

@2 – Savage has said repeatedly that he occasionally includes neutral, or even positive, stories about youth preachers in his YPW posts for balance. Every so often he puts up something that actually makes one of these guys look like a good person. But yeah, it does sort of come across looking like he thinks they’re creepy anyway… which I can relate to.
dan, i’m all for the youth pastor watch thing, but maybe… just MAYBE it makes you and not them look like the asshole when you basically imply that just BEING a youth pastor makes you a statutory rapist?

1 Religion is BAD.
2 Christianity is ESPECIALLY BAD.

C’mon Dan, this is really starting to bother me. I know you say that you’re only trying to be fair by including a “good” youth pastor at the end of YPW, but after reading about three bad youth pastors before that the reader can’t help but associate the taint with the the good one too. Plus, it’s not really fair for the last guy to have his picture up with the other ones. It’s like guilt by association. Please Dan, if you’re going to continue with YPW, just stick to the bad guys.
If Dan includes ‘normal’ Youth Pastors to be “fair” he would have to present them in numbers proportional to the number of degenerate and OK pastors in total.
Throwing in a token ‘normal’ every now and then is worse than none at all.
