I was just saying yesterday that I think Mexico City would be dead last on my list of “places I want to go” right now. What with the kidnappings and drug wars and swine flu. And now earthquake.

Have any of you people actually been to Mexico City? It’s an phenomenal city – gorgeous, rich in history, easy to get around, just one hell of a cool place.
It’s sad as hell that such a vital and culturally alive place has to suffer through these calamities. But it’s even sadder how so many of you are just so pig ignorant about one of the world’s most fascinating places only hours away from where you live.

This is a bummer. I just spent a week in Mexico City in Feb, my first time there, and I fell deeply in love. Dirty, sure, but the architecture alone makes the place a world wonder, to say nothing of the surrounding mountains. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to have done much damage. Stay strong, MC!
@8 – yes. My brother had his camera stolen and my sister (who is 6’2″) got groped on public transit but squished them in retaliation.
