I saw In the Loop last night, and I can say definitively that there is nothing as funny as brutal insults delivered in a Scottish burr.

  1. Strangelove was based on a war never fought and a President never elected (Stevenson).

This seems to want to satirize the war in Iraq, which every day appears more and more successful by historians. Crowning George Bush as the most successful President in the last 50 years.

  2. i think it’s their mastery of new and inventive insults moreso than the accent. altho, the accent does enhance the delivery. either way, win!

  3. Nothing is funnier than a Scotsman calling somebody a “radge cunt.” Reading a lot of Irvine Welsh novels will infuse your daily vocabulary with an assortment of Scottish insults.

  4. #3: You’re right, the inventiveness of the insults is hysterical! For instance (from In the Loop):

Within your “purview”? Where do you think you are, some fucking Regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some fucking Jane fucking Austen novel! Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your purview and ram it up your shitter with a lubricated horse cock!

    Jaunty little bonnet! Ha!

  5. it’s because they can casually drop a ‘cunt-face’ into any sentence without even blinking and mean it as a term of affection.
