The latest C4 reports in the mayor’s race are in today, detailing the total campaign contributions and expenditures between July 28 and August 10, teaching us once again that television ads are expensive (duh).
The two candidates who have spent the most time on television screens, Greg Nickels ($562,000) and Joe Mallahan ($400,000), have also spent the most money on their campaigns by far. Nickels has spent more than double the amount of Drago, McGinn, and Donaldson combined.
Also surprising is that, despite her falling poll numbers, Jan Drago brought in the second most money of all candidates in the last two weeks, $37,000. That is almost twice us much as Mike McGinn ($20,000), and over $10,000 more than Mallahan ($26,000). Poor James Donaldson only brought in $3,000 in the last two weeks. Nickels topped them all with $51,000.
Here are the totals raised and spent so far:
Nickels raised $560,000, spent $562,00
Mallahan raised $346,000, spent $400,000
Drago raised $139,000, spent $132,000
McGinn raised $78,000, spent $65,000
Donaldson raised $38,000, spent $50,000.

I know a lot of people working for McGinn for free, so while money may buy you robocalls, it may not matter in the long run.
