A report released by the Seattle Police Department confirms that a Friday morning shooting outside of the juvenile detention center on 12th and Alder was gang related.
The report says a white 4-door sedan—possibly a Chevrolet Impala—stopped in front of the Youth Service Center parking lot entrance and a young man got out of the back passenger seat. The man said “what up, nigga” and fired five or six shots into a crowd of people.
According to the report, the victim in the shooting has a West Side Street Mob tattoo. One neighbor at the scene claimed that the YSC is in Deuce Eight gang territory, but it’s entirely possible that the shooting was over something else.
In other crime news, a man in his twenties was stabbed in Belltown over the weekend after he refused to give a man a cigarette.
Police say that just before midnight on August 16th, the man was walking in the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue when he was approached by a group of men. One of the men in the group asked for a cigarette, and when the other man declined, members of the group began berating him. According to police, racial slurs were exchanged and the men began to fight. After the fight had broken up, the victim realized he’d been stabbed in the torso. He was driven to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.
SPD gang detectives also investigated a shooting at a party in Mount Baker early Saturday morning in the 3000 block of South Walden Street. Police say a fight broke out, and as several of the men involved in the fracas drove away, someone at the scene opened fire, hitting a bystander in the foot. Police say witnesses at the scene—including the 18-year-old woman who was shot—were uncooperative.
Can we just call off this damn war on drugs already and declare war on stupidity?
This is the 2nd foot shooting in a month.
