What’s the book? Obama’s Blackberry by Kasper Hauser.

Why is it useless? This is maybe the first book trying to cash in on Obama humor the way so many books made cash off of George W. Bush. It fails. Here is some, er, hilarity: Michelle Obama tells Barack Obama to clean up Bo’s barf! Bill Clinton wants Barack to send Hillary to other countries because she’s so annoying and he wants to have sex with women who are not Hillary! Dmitry Medvedev is upset because nobody knows he is President of Russia! It goes on like this. And on.

Could anyone enjoy this book? Nope. It’s not mean enough for Republicans, it’s not funny enough for anyone else.

  1. The problem with that book is, there’s nothing funny about Barak Obama. George W. Bush? Everything was funny about him. Either that or tragic.

  2. Whenever I think how much I’d love to have a job where I just sat and read books all day and then wrote about them, I think about having to formulate some sort of opinion about dreck like this.

And it still sounds better than being a brain in a jar.

  3. Kasper Hauser is a comedy troupe from San Francisco. They wrote a (in my opinion) very funny Sky Mall parody that made the rounds a couple years back.

I’ve read snippets of this and didn’t find it particularly objectionable. A few lines weren’t even half bad. I’d describe it as mildly amusing and generally benign. But then maybe I just don’t have that killer instinct to hate on other people’s creative efforts.

  4. Did you hear the one about Obama and Iran?

And you never will. Now get back to work you slacker unpatriotic Republicans!

  5. The book is actually pretty funny. I’ve read it. The human is well done satire. Its not mean enough for republicans but its a good read for everyone else.

  6. Kasper Hauser has some good material. I could see this book falling flat, but their sketch comedy material is top notch. They do a great send-up on This American Life and Fresh Air.
