This is certainly the funniest tourism advertisement I have ever seen:

BBC reports:

A video promoting tourism in Denmark has been removed from YouTube after complaints it promoted promiscuity.

The three-minute clip shows a young blonde woman, trying to find a man whom she had a one night stand with, who fathered her child “August”.

VisitDenmark’s manager, Dorte Kiilerich said the film was supposed to be a “nice and sweet story of a woman”.

But Denmark’s Economy Minister, Lene Espersen, said it “was not a very well-thought-out picture of the country”.

The ad did its work; it’s a huge success.

Charles Mudede—who writes about film, books, music, and his life in Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, the USA, and the UK for The Stranger—was born near a steel plant in Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe. He has no memory...

  1. holy crap. AWESOME. it says “AD” right over her shoulder. that’s my absolute favorite touch.

i watched it weeks ago and bought it hook line and sinker.

    that actress is wonderful.

  2. Great ad, and if you have ever know any Danes, they are pretty people, and sexual athletes/prizes.

You want a sexy vacation – yes – go, go, go to Denmark.

    Gay or the others.

  3. If this had been an American ad promoting tourism in the U.S., the religious right would be shitting themselves now.

Europeans don’t take everything so personally and seriously.

  4. Any blackout drinkers in Denmarks are goddamn Millionaires. Alcohol is stratospherically expensive. Everything else in Denmark is fucking stupid expensive.

Given that gorgeous blonde babes abound, if you can find one that can afford to get drunk, triple-word-score, dude!

  5. Presumably, a tourism video should imply that fun can be had in the country of destination. In this case, this fun to be had consists of unprotected drunken sex between strangers?

Yes, it’s fun, in the moment. But, yeah, a self-supporting woman having a healthy child is among the best outcomes of that kind of situation. Let’s see the video where she’s looking for who gave her chlamydia.

  6. I watched the whole, seemingly interminable video, and I don’t read any of these messages in it. Except maybe, “Come to Denmark, where every conversation is pointless, and seems to go on forever.” I don’t know, actually I’d have never guessed it was about going to Denmark without being told before I watched it.

  7. Or, maybe you could go to Denmark because it’s a cool place and there’s lots to see? Not because you’re looking to fuck a hot Scandinavian chick.

  8. I love this ad although I’m not sure exactly how it’s supposed to, you know, do what it’s supposed to do. Well, except now that I know what it is I think it’s totally sweet and it makes me like Denmark.

Man, people are such pussies. One stick-up-the-ass complaint and they pull the video? Weak.

  9. @14 – Honey, that hot chick, or, hot guy, might help you find your balls.

You NEED Denmark, badly. You did understand the ad, now act, for your sake.

    Mother is concerned.

Signed: Mom – going to Denmark again this fall.

  10. matt!, if you’re lucky, you can do it with the hot flight attendant on the sas flight on the way there.

don’t fly northwest, they suck. umm, don’t fly nw unless that is your cup of teabag.

  11. the Danes make cheese with mother’s milk … I kid not

famed national speciality …. moms pump and sell to the local tank, the titty milk is collected and … voila the most expensive gourmet cheese in the world

it is bit on the strong side for American taste, very rich, pale orange in color, small triangles

  12. Man if I knocked-up a hot Danish chick I couldn’t wait to get over to her, marry-up, and get me some of that sweet European socialist welfare.

  13. @22: That’s gross. And yet, I love every other type of cheese (shitty “American” obviously excluded), so I have a hard time believing I wouldn’t like this. It would be all about suspension of disbelief for me though.

  14. @9 Not everything is expensive in Denmark. There’s no college tuition. (In fact they pay students to go to college, and generously subsidize study abroad.) There are no health care insurance premiums to pay every month. They make health, education, and infrastructure priorities, and make alcohol, cigarettes, automobiles and other discretionary consumer goods expensive.

  15. oh come on #25, i assume you drank your mother’s milk when you were a baby, right? so why is it gross all of a sudden to eat cheese made from human milk? as long as the source isn’t diseased or on drugs it’s no big deal.
