…because I was watching Pet Shop Boys at the Moore, but this morning’s internet offerings give me a pretty good idea what I missed.

Here’s Neil Patrick Harris‘ musical opening number….

…which is good and pretty funny, but notable primarily for the way it casually decimates two alleged Hollywood truisms: 1. Child stardom is a one-way trip to desperate, drug-addicted adulthood. 2. Coming out of the closet will kill the career of an actor who happens to be gay. Go Doogie! I’ve never watched any of your shows but I love you!

And here’s a full list of the night’s 2009 Emmy winners. The stuff I care about:

*Grey Gardens, which won Best Made-for-TV Movie and Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie (for Jessica Lange, though it should’ve been Drew, but I’m glad they didn’t cancel each other out.) However, Grey Gardens did NOT win best screenplay, which is good, because the Grey Gardens screenplay kinda stunk.

*Despite being strenuously unfunny, Justin Timberlake is now an Emmy-award-winning comic actor, having been named 2009’s Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (beating Steve Martin, Alan Alda, and Jon Hamm). Apparently, “Dick in a Box” captures Timberlake in a rare actually-funny moment, but anyone who’s seen The Love Guru knows that Justin Timberlake’s comic acting should not be encouraged.

*Intervention won Best Reality Series! Hope they enjoy the victory, because next year they’re gonna get trounced by Hoarders. Still: Congratulations to Intervention, without which I would’ve never met Alison.

  1. justin timberlake is the greatest snl guest host ever. that’s just a fact! i have no interest in seeing him in a movie, but i will never miss an episode of snl involving justin timberlake.

  4. Sorry Schmader, I agree with @1. JT has been consistently hilarious on SNL. I’m sorry you were subjected to the Love Guru and can’t see past it’s crappiness.

  6. 1 and 4: The only JT-on-SNL I’ve seen is the “Sexy Ladies” skit with Beyonce, in which he was awful. He’s clearly not afraid to make a fool of himself, but can he do anything else?

  7. Jessica Lang was better than Drew in the surprisingly good GG. Drew was FANTASTIC for Drew, but she still brought enough Drew to the character that it pulled you out of the story from time to time. Also, Drew!

  8. And a shout out to local award winner Jeff Probst, host of “Survivor”, who picked up his third statuette last night, and has now gone two-for-two in the “Host, Reality or Reality-Competition Program” category introduced last year.

  9. Get a clue. Jessica Lange delivered one of the finest performances of her career in GREY GARDENS. Drew did a fairly accurate imitation of Little Edie that just about any fan of the movie could reproduce if they desired. That award was Jessica Lange’s by right of sheer talent.

    Justin Timberlake didn’t win last night. He won last week at the Creative Arts Emmys (Emmys Lite.)

    Oh and by the way, Intervention won its Emmy for Best Reality Series last week too.

    But you keep trying….

  14. I most respectfully disagree with @2. In my opinion the reason Neil Patrick Harris has found success after child-hood stardom is that, unlike most TV actors, he has old-fashioned talent. He’s easy on the eyes, can sing and can do character (which as Ms. Bette Davis used to say) so he’ll work forever.
