Christ, what now? Wall Street Journal says:
WYTHEVILLE, Va. — As many as five people are being held hostage at a post office in a small town in Virginia, authorities said.
Wytheville Mayor Trent Crewe said five people were inside the building, including three employees and two customers. Mr. Crewe said shots have been fired but no injuries have been reported.

There is a deep recession going on: people are desperate and scared. And they have litterally no hope to cling to. The rise in violence is going to continue for some time.
Denver has had 14 bank robberies in the last week (as well as three robberies of medical marijuana dispensaries). Yep, it’s a bad time of year for some people.
I can totally relate, having been in a post office this week. Why does that fat guy behind the counter have to chit-chat with every customer when there are 50 people in line? Why do people stand in line just to buy stamps?
@3, there are still places (like where I live) where standing in line at the post office is the only way to buy stamps. YMMV.
This could have happened with steak knives. Bank robberies, police officers killed, mass murders – we are lucky that guns are easy to buy so criminals don’t have to resort to just-as-dangerous steak knives. I can’t read BBC news without seeing stories every day about steak-knife wielding maniacs taking military bases and schools and post offices hostage.
The only way we can reduce this rampant violence is for the supreme court to recognize our 2nd amendment rights to own arms like grenades and tanks so we can defend ourselves!
And what’s with the wave of cop-killing in Washington state?
@3,
If you want any stamps other than what the machine feels like spitting out at you, you have to go to the counter. Case in point: the last time I bought stamps, the machine automatically gave me holiday stamps, which really annoyed me because it takes me six months to a year to use up one sheet.

@1, etc.: the “rise in violence” isn’t happening at all. Crime is down all over the place. What’s up is hysterical blog posts based on anecdotal evidence.
