Powell supports it because Obama is letting the military do it their way. And that will turn out to be the best way, the fastest way, and the way least likely to make the Repubs roll out their beloved Smoke Machine on this one. It’s not gonna be years, they’re just hedging their bets. Straight soldiers will just deal with knowing that Pvt. So-and-so is gay; many will not have any problem with it. Top brass are tired of losing competent personnel, especially at times of low recruitment. I’m sure they’re aware, also, of all the Arab speakers from the Army language school in Monterey, CA (a favored assignment for gays in the military, don’t ask me why) that have been kicked out, at a time when our military reeeaaaalllllly needs Arab speakers.
This is gonna get done, people.

I’m happy that he supports DADT, just as I was happy that he endorsed Obama. But I still can’t be a fan of the man. He made it a hell of a lot easier to go to war in Iraq with his shameful sales pitch of a war he had to know was unjustified. Would we have gone to war without his support? Maybe, but I wonder…
