Doug Benson, Burbank, c. 2005
He was in first class on my flight to Seattle. It was some ridiculous hour like 5:30 am. Coincidentally, I had just seen him perform about six hours earlier. “Hey!” I said, as I passed through the aisle. “Your set was great last night!” “What?” he said. “I saw you last night. At M Bar. Isn’t that weird?” “What?” he said. Then he went back to sleep. Later I sent him a MySpace message that said, “Sorry I woke you up.” He wrote back, “That’s okay! You weren’t annoying at all!” Sarcasm hurts.

Watch The Number 23 and tell me Joel Schumacher is not a comedian.

Lindy West was born an unremarkable female baby in Seattle, Washington. The former Stranger writer covered movies, movie stars, exclamation points, lady stuff, large frightening fish, and much, much more....

  1. I was on the same flight as Doug Benson flying back from South by Southwest a couple months ago. He was in seat 1A. I was not.

  2. Lewis Black, Detroit Airport, March 2010

He looked angry and flustered. Not sure if that’s because he’s Lewis Black or because he was rushing through an airport at 6 am.

  3. I saw Tony Shaloub in a hotel in Schenectady, NY, in 1995. Not performing, just walking down the hallway with his family. He looked briefly at me with the look of “yea, I’m the fake-Italian guy from Wings” then looked away.
