…for gay marriage (sort of) in an NYT interview with Deborah Solomon:

You’ve been accused of writing gay-bashing lyrics in the past. Would you like to see gay marriage approved in Michigan, where you live?

I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.

Is this the new, 37-year-old tolerant you?

It’s the new tolerant me!

The next thing you know he’ll say women are more than his servant love dolls. (Via JoeMyGod.)

  1. See?

Some “activists” have don’t really want to win. You’re in this only because you like to fight. You hate small victories, you hate big victories. You’d rather chalk up losses so you can have something to bitch about.

To the grown-up activists: congratulations. You somehow got thorough to this guy, a little bit.

  2. Ooh, here I come with my ax to grind!

This is the fruit of Elton John having reached out to him years ago rather than lobbing spitballs from a distance like the rest of us.

We all happily agree how true it is that homophobes soften over time if we out gays make an effort to be in their lives, but let a tacky old homo publicity hound like Elton actually do it with other publicity hound homophobes (Eminem, Rush fucking fatasshole Limbaugh) and we declare it distasteful and turn on him right quick.

But it works. As you see.

End of certitudinous rant, likely product of a childhood idolization of EJ’s 70’s schtick.

  3. In that song, ‘The Real Slim Shady’ in one of his verses he basically says that if people can do a bunch of sick, twisted shit (like hump dead animals and antelopes) then there shouldn’t be any reason that a man and another man can’t elope.

Which, to me, is pretty pro gay marriage.
