What champion college wrestler Paul Donahoe did do was jack off for a porn website. When he was outed—not as gay, which he isn’t, but as a jacker-offer—the University of Nebraska tossed the “disgraced” wrestler off their team. But now Donahue is going to get the last laugh: he transfered to a new college, Edinboro University, where he easily, er, made the wrestling team. And he’s had his best season ever—unbeaten in 32 matches—and he’s currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in his weight class. Now he’s headed to the NCAA championships. Of the “scandal” Donahoe says…
“I believe it was unfair for Nebraska to dismiss me from the team. For one, there’s plenty of athletes throughout the University of Nebraska who have had DUIs and who have been in fights and are still playing. But I guess that’s OK. Posing nude, I guess, is worse than someone drinking and driving and risking someone’s life, in their eyes.”
Donahoe is part of the post-Paris-Hilton generation—he refuses to pretend to be ashamed of something that he has no reason to be ashamed of. And he plans on trying out for the US Olympic team in May. Good for him.

I don’t think I can decide his guilt without first seeing the offending video.
The Stranger is obviously part of the pre-Paris Hilton generation where the fact that they won’t address the issue of a crime committed by an employee is admission of shame.
stealing an $8.99 bottle of red wine = ILLEGAL.
jacking off for a porn website = LEGAL.
Compare and contrast to Michael Phelps, who has made the greater sin of yielding to the cowing of his corporate overlords.
Note his other comments about gays in the Globe article. He’s a friend of the family. Three cheers for the new and unlikely gay icon. Go Paul!
Whoa! UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA?!?! STRAIGHT AND STILL ROLLING AROUND ON THE FLOOR DOMINATING OTHER GUYS?!!? Yeah, he’s got the last laugh SEALED yo!
This articles is worthless without pictures. A link please.
Wrestling, the olympic scam, and Nebraska. Is there anything I care about less? Oh, right: stealing wine from QFC, Dan’s support for the Iraq war, and foie gras.
Still, your take on this seems spot on, Dan.
@6 Seriously, what rock have you been living under? It was all over the interwebs last summer. Google “Nash Fratmen” if it means that much to you.
I’m so glad I live in a city with enough real things to do and real things to bitch about that I can jack off on camera (and others can steal stuff) without it becoming something the people actually think matters.
I always understood Nebraska was provincial in this way, but I never thought Seattle was. Goes to show you shouldn’t go by reputation but rather judge by actions.
We’ll all be pulling for him.
shouldn’t it be “WHOM should I apologize to?”
@11 — “to whom should I apologize”
Thanks, #8. “Googling” as we speak.
and, at the 14th commenter, i’m surprised i’m the first to bring this up…
but dear sweet savior is that guy good looking.
There was a lot of discussion about this issue when it came out last year on this website that is worth looking back on. While I think the dismissal of the two wrestlers was inappropriate, remember that there were grounds for dismissal based upon their violation of NCAA rules. They used their affiliation as NCAA athletes to make money and had both had disciplinary problems with the school before. Did homophobia help in getting them dismissed? Probably. But I think the university acted as the NCAA required them to act, and the fairness of that rule itself should be subject to healthy debate. Regardless, I hope for the best for these talented, hot men.
@14. True, true… that smile… And, his comments on DUIs vs. posing nude make me love him even more.
14… true that! He can come wrestle with me any day.
@10,
Nice one!!!
Mmmmmmm! Gotta love wrestling!
Gorgeous.
My hero!
Big Sven for the takedown! @14 = funniest comment all week.
I wish he would hurt me… (just a little bit).
He’s my new hero and I love his comment about other UN athletes who get away with far, far worse things than doing a jack-off video. If Donahue had been a FOOTBALL player, and the “violation” didn’t have the stigma of same sex erotica, it would have been either hushed up or he’d have gotten a slap on the er, wrist.
Seconded Fnarf, it made me chuckle too.
Yes, no doubt, he’s very hot, and he seems like a great kid, and good for him for standing up to the morality police, but did any one read the subtitle of the Boston Globe article?
“Unapologetic wrestler starts over after controversial website shoot”
Nobody at the Globe caught that before they went to press? Ooooo…
He is cute.
OMG, have you seen his dick? Beautiful. Don’t know how to hyperlink, so… http://www.legayblog.com/images/2008/09/…
I wish more people were like him.
I’m a Nebraska grad, so it was sad to see what happened to him. On the good side though, it’s great to see him doing so well now.
You go dude!! I’m so glad he is kicking ass in wrestling! Our culture is like that. Violence is totally acceptable, nudity gets NC17 shit. DUIs are cool, something with sex is “despicable”.
