I can’t believe it’s been less than a year since Obama became president and the Teabaggers have already started talking about revolution:

Apparently, today is Constitution Day, which naturally means it is time to start openly resisting the Federal Government because the Constitution doesn’t mention things like nationalized health care or the war on drugs or automobiles or television or space shuttles or shame or common sense. How far can one openly talk about revolution before the government steps in? And what happens when that happens?

I enjoy the above video most of all for its use of Robert Redford in The Candidate, who was not the perfect Teabagging icon they imagine him to be.

In conclusion: Jesus fucking Christ.

  1. Cool! They can divert all the narcops, after legalization/taxation, to crack down on these terrorists, who masquerade as religious zealots while conspiring to attack us again.

  2. So… the constitution was perfect and shouldn’t need amendments… oh wait, they base themselves on the 10th amendment? Jesus fucking Christ, indeed

  3. Don’t tell these people about the 9th Amendment. It’s the one that lets you have gay rights, privacy, abortion, a right to clean air and clean water, and who knows what else. Literally a right to anything that the rational mind can believe in within the bounds of logic, known facts and basic common sense.

  4. ouch!
    that’s a strong set of descriptors p.c.,

and by the way… will I have better luck writing Tori Amos in as THEE January Girl or

Should we call Megan Dodge back inside so her and the “other Foxy Megan with a STAR ON HER ANKLE” can

come over to my place and we can watch the 4 video tapes of John Wayne and we all DUKE it out together on T.M.>>>>?!?….ao…..B.O.A.!!!

p.s…. don’t forget to mention the January Calander between the heels and the pincher as the composite component to the Redford CIA Movie thing….and guns…lots of guns.

Down With the FEDS… VIVA LA VIDEO!!!!

  5. what the hell does ancient rome have to do with the us constitution? aside from the general lack of soundness in the arguments, that painting just has no reason to be featured.

  6. Um, that video did nothing to promote revolution. Instead, it promotes the limit of the federal government to what is defined in the Constitution. Quit scaring people.

  7. I am serious as a heart attack when I ask “What do we have to do to become a Canadian province?” Seriously, is it just a simple majority vote? Is there an application to fill out? (I’m good at filling out forms!) Do we have to write an essay about why we want to be Candadians?

  8. Libertarians have broken brains.

It’s like they understand some details and completely miss the larger points. Yes, the constitution was designed to limit the power of the government, but the real difference between the monarchy are our government is that our government is supposed to represent us, the people. Along with the separation of powers and the constitutional amendments, the government provides an elected executive and congressional assembly that represents OUR interests.

It’s like they don’t really get that the real issue of the war for independence was representation: taxation without rep, government without rep. We theoretically have a government with representation. We elect and unelect officials. We play a role in creating the laws that govern us. Therefore the issues of independence have been largely resolved. We pay taxes because we are represented, we adhere to the law of the land because we elect our lawmakers.

For some reason, libertarian fucktards think that a document desgined to protect us from tyrants and monarchies is somehow an anti-government screed. It’s not. It’s simply the ground rules for good government, and has nothing to do with the size and scope of it. It limits how the government can act upon its citizens, not its size or tax base.

These people need to go back to school or shut the fuck up.

  9. My favorite part is where they insist that politicians must vote in favor of the constitution every time, no exceptions. Um…then why aren’t these people crying for the end of DOMA, which violates the Full Faith & Credit Clause of the constitution? Oh right because they only read the parts of the constitution that suit them….kind of like how crazy Christians only quote parts of the bible that fit their agenda, ignoring all that love thy neighbor stuff that gets in the way.

  10. @9 Move. The rest of us will stick around and try to work through this. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to come back. Nothing keeping you here and nothing wrong with being an expat.

  11. So that’s why our President wants to keep the roaming wiretap and terrorists in the US laws …

Ecotopia will probably come, the longer we delay splitting the western states into multiple states – as the inconsitencies of the electoral college and the Senate/House divide grows larger and misrepresents the Nation.

  12. @12 – actually, you can collect Social Security overseas – just don’t forget to file your US tax return (there is an exemption if you don’t make too much).

  13. I can’t wait for Redford to sue the pants off someone for appropriating his likeness in a political statement. And then the movie production company follows up with the same people stealing material from The Candidate.

  14. Re: #12: I don’t actually know any Canadians personally, but sometimes i feel a desire to apologize. I suspect many Canadians may take exception to the fact that so many Americans regard their northern neighbors as a dumping ground for dissatisfied citizens.

    Canada. You deserve better.

  15. Hey, it’s the Olympics – they’re already laying down the first sheet of ice (today). Don’t worry, every few years or so they go through an anti-American period and toss out the bad ones.

  16. One of the most irritating parts of the teabagging movement is the constant veneration of the Founding Fathers, and the use of certain quotes. I’m a big TJ fan, but just because he said something doesn’t make it true or relevant (e.g., “tree must be watered w/ blood, etc.”).

The misuse of de Tocqueville is also funny, as he was commenting on a country that did not have entrenched monied classes. He was a French royalist, and his observations have been of almost no relevance for 120+ years.

  17. It’s not like half of the founding fathers were slave owners who raped their women slaves and kept the children enslaved or anything …

    Oh, wait, they did.

  18. I don’t need a single day to tell me to resist the federal government. I regularly practice smoking pot and accepting gay people daily. It would seem that alone would be resisting tyranny, consider myself a resister.

  19. After watching all the nutty t-baggers on Youtube and reading Paul’s post, I was surprised how bland this video was. I was expecting some real knee-slappers but kinda drifted off partway through.

If this was all they ever talked about, they’d disappear pretty quick.

    Yaaaaawwnnn

  20. Oh, the FRACKING MINDBOGGLING IRONY that is the teabaggers approach to everything

I like how the 9/12 marchers are complaining that DC Metro didnt put extra trains in service to accomodate their numbers at their protest of using tax-payers money to fund public services like healthcare.

  21. If the Founding Fathers were such fucking geniuses, then why did the country nearly fall apart amid the bloodiest war in our history less than 100 years later?

Some of the shit they put in the Constitution (like 3/5 of a person) is just wack.

  22. @24 They were geniuses! Because it almost didn’t happen! That constitutional convention kept grinding to a halt, major butting of heads over, ohhh, what could that subject be?

Oh, I won’t even mention it. But that 3/5’s thingie kicked the can down the road for a few generations.

    Then we had a freakout.

And in the generation after that, we kicked the can down the road for a half a century or so…

Still, better the U.S. Const. than the Articles of Confederation. We could have devolved into a suabbling Europe of nation states, if things had not gone well. (Still, it’s a shame about that great big 500,000+ dead freakout.)

(Shame about that chattel slavery thing, too, but nothing was going to happen in Philadelphia in 1789 that was going to stop that. Just like nothing’s going to happen in DC this year that’s going to lead to universal health care.)

  23. Har har har har. I love it when the fudge packers get their panties twisted. This is with out a doubt a website full of morons and losers. Never met anyone from Seattle that wasn’t some type of weird twisted freak or a winner at anything. Can win this so now you all want to go to Canada. When you leave here, you’re all ‘gonna practice the schitty art of cornhole anyway…..so….go to Canada. I think you all have a great idea. I’ll even help out and pay your way.

I know I’ll get flamed by flaming pink half-wits but I couldn’t care less what you losers think. You fools are laughed at worldwide everyday.

Oh yeah….one more thing….I’ll bet all your coffee taste like seattle dick………schitty flavored.
