From Boing Boing:
While the police don’t want to create panic, because most persons who would purchase such an item want it for personal use, they do want parents to be aware of the presence of these gummi bears in the Cranbrook area,” police said in a release.
From Junkie by W.S. Burroughs:
Peddlers try to get high-school children dependent on junk, or marijuana. A recent magazine article depicts peddlers slipping laudanum into the Coca-Cola of teenagers.
This is utterly ridiculous. No peddler wants kids for customers. They never have enough money, they talk too much, and they cannot stand up under police questioning. The best customers are the old-timers. They know all the angles and generally have some source of revenue.

Burroughs being no dummy, dealers are obvs. putting drugs into beloved retro candy shapes to boost sales to adulthood-postponing grownups, then.
So this goes right into your “fucking hipsters act your age” file.
WANT.
Time to take a weekend trip to Cranbrook. For “camping”, of course.
As someone who used to enjoy when our team beat Cranbrook, I am not surprised. At all.
At least they stopped the hard stuff, like 7.5 percent alcoholic beer – the pre-teens in Cranbrook used to down cases of that stuff.
Urban legend time. This is no different than the “dealers are selling acid on blotter paper with cartoon characters on it, so they can ENSNARE OUR KIDS. They used to pass this kind of crap around with fax machines and flyers up on poles.
What dealer “slips” anything? They want you to be very clear on what you getting so when you come back for more, you can ask for it by name.
Yeah I was gonna say… Before I read the second excerpt, I thought, “What idiot drug dealer would want a bunch of moronic kids hanging around him?”
This is how the drug warriors drum up support for their bullshit agenda! They manipulate the fearfulness of the Concerned Mothers of America and spin something to sound like people are after their children.
Reminds me of how when I was first discovering rock music and my mom told me she wouldn’t buy me any Acid Rock records. Like she knew what acid rock was.
When I asked her to buy me Def Leppards “Pyromania” (Yes, I’m that old) she openly worried that it would lead me to being around people who would drug me.
I’ll stick to Jell-O shots, thanks…
A while back there was some “Bible scripture” going around Seattle. Somebody cut out choice quotes from the bible and dropped liquid LSD on it.
I bet it worked great to get the untapped goody goody christians hooked on it.
Whoever is pushing this propaganda should be shot, and whoever believes it should be shot as well.
