Eliminate the education department!?! Quixotic to the extreme!
3
Cuts to the defense department? Don't think the Reagan worshiping right wingers are going to like that one bit. I, however, love the idea. What a world we live in.
4
The Street Smart rule in the US Senate is that newbie Senators should keep their views to themselves for the first couple months and work on the nuts and bolts of their committee assignment. Rand Paul can release all the grand schemes he wants, but he isn’t going to get any support even from his GOP colleagues if he spouts does this. Much like how Tom Coburn is pretty much sidelined as an influence within the Senate GOP.
5
Grandstanding in the extreme. Megalomaniac, too.
6
Who needs that edumication!!
7
Speaking of the "stench of white supremacy", you should look at Dennis Dale's ties to American Renaissance and VDare and consider if you should really allow a white nationalist to post articles to Slog.
8
I can certainly understand how the value of 'education' is lost on Kentucky residents.
9
@3 NOBODY is going to like it. The DoD has been extremely careful to make sure defense dollars are spent in EVERY congressional district in the nation. Just wait, even the bluest of the blue will start hollering if the military tries to shut down business in their district.
10
@9 Good point.
11
If interest groups take this bait, they are dumber than the fucktards who elected Paul. He is and always will be an ineffective maroon.
12
I guess I don't understand the Senate. Individual Senators can just draw up their own version of the federal budget? I though these things were done in committee. For a doctor, Rand Paul sure is a doofus.

Kind of reminds me of Darcy Burner's plan for ending the Iraq War. Not sure if you can take someone with that large of an ego very seriously.
14
He has about the same level of white supremacist stench as the most likely presidential candidate. He should be a shoe-in.
15
@7 Oh my, you are right. The link is right there on his blog.
16
You really think the stench of white supremacy would be a drawback in the next elections?
17
Strategy: Develop an absurd, reactionary plan and propose it now, when you've been Senator for a miniscule amount of time and your party is in the minority. There's no chance that it will pass, but it appeals to your base and should things develop poorly for the American economy (not terribly unlikely) you can say 'Well if only they'd listened to me two years ago...' Even If your plan would've only made things worse (which is almost certainly the case here) you can just call that your opponents 'opinion.'
18
Good, I'm glad we don't need education. I mean what do you need to know to work at Wal Mart or McDonald's?

I'm hoping they kill social security and medicare/medicade. It's nothing more than a hand out. Those elderly peeople can just work until they die. A good solid $7.50 per hour wage for good hard work.

What? We're dropping the minimum wage too? Well shit, $.35 an hour is just as fair as $7.50 an hour!!!
19
he needs to start by cutting his toupee budget.

Rand Paul on eliminating the Food and Drug Administration:

“The market will correct itself. After the first few people die, others will realize what is going on and stop buying their product.”
-Rand Paul talking to radio personality Thom Hartmann
21
It's no coincidence that the politicians most opposed to funding public education are those who would most benefit from an uneducated electorate.
22
@12- Anyone can draw up a budget for the USA, it doesn't mean the Senate is going to do a damn thing about it. Rand Paul's budget proposal is symbolic, the budget committee will ignore it, he'll whine like a libertarian.
23
I disagree with Rand Paul on lots of things, but saying he has "the stench of white supremacy all over him" when 20% of his campaign staff was African-American, is just as intelligent and insightful as a Freeper saying that Obama has "the stench of communism all over him." Intellectually speaking, it's exactly the same, and exactly as true.
24
@13

Bwahahaha!! Thats the exact reason I've been avoiding his posts.
25
@7, right on. Dennis Dale is a "race realist", which is a fancy way of saying "white supremacist". Good going, Slog.
26
You know, I'm no Rand Paulite, but I'd gladly trade the Department of Education, which does no actual educating of its own, for a half-trillion whack at the DoD. There's more waste over at Defense in an hour than there is in most programs in a hundred years. Some of our projects in Iraq and Afghanistan are NINETY PERCENT waste.
27
@26 Why we need a cold war military budget has everything to do with spending here at home and nothing to do with any threats. Another bonehead legacy of Ronald Reagan.
28
That stench of white supremacy is exactly why places like AZ and UT idolize him. Rand Paul bumper stickers share space with the Reagan, Bush, Bush/Cheney, McCain/Palinbitch stickers on those ancient farm pickups and rusted out Jeep Wagoneers.
29
@27, "spending here at home" doesn't explain where the THREE TRILLION for the Iraq War went, the vast majority of which was simply poured out onto the sand for no reason.

Many, many audits and analysises have suggested that the DoD is by a wide margin the most wasteful, most inefficient part of government. Pissing it away at home, pissing it away abroad, same difference.

Please wait...
