The Police Guild certainly isn't a good advertisement for public sector unions.
2
Edit: Vanessa Romo should be in brackets.
3
The second paragraph of that report is confusing.
4
Hey now, sometimes after you hold someone down and cuff them they just need a good punchin. Clearly its not assault cause you know, its part of the cops job to beat people down when they have them cuffed.
5
he was resisting arrest!
6
"The arrest was witnessed by a freelance radio reporter [Luke Burbank], who called her boyfriend, a KIRO radio talk-show host, to the scene. "

You might want to review that paragraph.
7
yeah, and use a new font

So, one has to ask: if the witness HADN'T been a reporter, or worked with a reporter, or known a reporter, would SPD have continued to stonewall, deny and obfuscate? Would an internal investigation have even been considered?

And the answer is...

9
Does SPD have a steroid problem?
10
When does it get to the point where we can start actually firing police officers until they learn to knock this shit off?
11
I strongly supported McGinn, donated to his campaign, and love his transportation policies.

But, unless he makes MAJOR changes with SPD and SPOG, there's absolutely no way he's getting my vote for re-election.
12
It's time to break the SPD open. Federal investigation, get rid of Diaz, investigate SPOG leadership. Seriously -- this is totally out of control.
13
@11, the heat is on. Vanessa and Luke have done something wonderful here. I've got my fingers crossed U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan hits the go button on this thing quick.
14
The next time someone takes a gun into a coffee shop and starts to shoot some cops can we NOT pretend that we are shocked that something like that could happen?

Seriously, if someone has mental problems to begin with and decides that the cops are out to get them; having police doing shit like this DOES NOT HELP!!!

Here's the story - the [insert some generalized name for a minority or homeless person here] suspect assaulted the officer by [insert some form of assault here], the officer then responded by proper use of force as spelled out in SPD's rules. The suspect has been convicted in the past of [insert some minor offense casting dispersion on the victim]. The King County prosecutor will charge the victim [er, I mean suspect] with [some sort of assault of an officer]. When suspect is found not guilty, the case will be dropped, and the crime committed by the officer will be overlooked once again.

This is the SPD and King County Prosecutor's playbook. They are in it together. This will happen over and over and over and over again until some politician speaks out against it. Since that won't happen, we need another harsh Federal investigation. However, keep in mind the FBI investigated the SPD just a few years ago and came away with nothing. Will this time be like the 70's, or will it be like 4 years ago?

Obviously, not all police officers are power-crazed men with anger management problems who believe they can do no wrong because they are the police. Unfortunately, the ones who are give a bad name to everybody else.
Its slightly alarming how unsurprised by this I am.
18
Sad thing is that the dude was only jaywalking.

And i called this story on slog last week!!!!
