Will this tunnel help us compete with Sputnik?

That is my question.

What are those weird gray and maroon shapes on the page?

There is only one question and one answer in the room.

You may not soil your paper.

How many polls are in the field regarding I-101, I-102 and public opinion on the City Council and state? We have several councilmembers up for reelection this year and it's becoming a little more clear that their decisions on the tunnel will have a pretty direct effect on their election prospects.

In fact, given the large push behind both 101 and 102 and the use of the tunnel as a campaign issue, it looks like Councilmembers haven't really thought this thing through if multiple campaigns have the background info necessary to tell them to move ahead on their plans.

In the case of 101, for example, with little fanfare or promotion they were able to easily snag the required number of signatures. With 102, the effort is being led by the same grassroots coalition that shut down Councilmember Burgess' panhandling ordinance in spite the vast support of the local mainstream media.

And I'd also point out another aspect of polling that may be beneficial to Burgess in particular: as a law and order candidate, every decision is amplified in light of numerous issues with the police, from the death of woodcarver and known panhandler John T. Williams to articles in the Guardian. An unsympathetic opponent could easily turn that on Burgess.

So perhaps we should more carefully plot action on this, City Council?

Maybe, just maybe, this is starting to stink of a Failure of a Project.

Kill it, get real, and do one of the two functional, cheaper, and higher capacity alternatives.

There, budget solved.

Council's on the blade of a knife, and walking along won't make the path any easier until they realize they don't need to walk on the blade, they need to get off of it.

So if ordinarily it's expected to be YOU BASTARD INCUMBENT SIGNED THIS AGREEMENT OF TERROR, it doesn't seem too dramatic a shift to be facing YOU BASTARD INCUMBENT DON'T YOU DARE SIGN THIS AGREEMENT OF TERROR. Opportunities on both sides there.

In either case, the more vigorous the campaign, the more facts get before voters on all this, the less hype holds sway in the long run. That can't be bad.

I assume their plan is to try to ignore the law and cram it through just like they did with the EIS Conlin signed off on. It will be interesting to see how much lawlessness this little corner of the nation's oligarchy are able to command here in lib land.

I will vote against all of these anti-tunnel politicians. Their only platform is being against the tunnel, thats it, thats their entire campaign right now. They'll print up 10,000 "Im with McGinn!" T-Shirts and coast into November.

yes, @7. sadly, you are correct.

Seattle loves our Mayor, @8, no matter what the nabobs in the suburbs want or their DSA apparatchiks.

Please wait...
