Here's what GLSEN is trying to do:

GLSEN launched the Safe Space Campaign late last year to place a Safe Space Kit in every middle and high school in the United States—more than 100,000 schools.

Nine out of 10 LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) students experienced harassment at school in the past year. LGBT students who can identify supportive adults in their school are less likely to feel unsafe at school, are more likely to plan to graduate and go on to college, and are more likely to feel connected to the school community.

The GLSEN Safe Space Kit provides resources for educators to create a safe and affirming space for LGBT students. It includes a 42-page guide that provides concrete strategies for addressing anti-LGBT bias and behavior and supporting LGBT students, as well as 10 Safe Space stickers and two Safe Space posters.
