I work for a subcontractor on the site. You have to have a security check and Boeing badge to set foot there. They don't allow photos at all. During a South Park Bridge pre-bid tour, they made sure everyone knew they could take photos of the bridge, but not of Plant 2. Sort of strange, considering I imagine you can see it on Google Earth. The media blackout doesn't surprise me.

My understanding is that Boeing is well aware how much it's gotten away with polluting the Duwamish and leaving the public on the hook to pay for the lion's share of future cleanup. They must figure the fewer journalists sniff around Plant 2's history the better.

Boeing is paying for the remediation of Plant 2 property, at least, with oversight from Ecology and EPA. The only problem with this is that they have those agencies somewhat over a barrel in terms of how the cleanup is done because if Boeing halts this cleanup, it throws a huge monkey wrench into the cleanup of the rest of the Lower Duwamish.

You can take, or could take, rather, all the photos you wanted from a boat on the river. We took a Duwamish tour last year that was really interesting. But yes, Gus, there's so much crap in the soil and water around there that would turn your hair green if you touched it.

@3, i should have been clearer: it's not the effects on their own land, the part you're working on, that is the worry - it's in the river and nearby.

I managed to take a number of photos here before the demo. You can see them here.
Also, the EPA report for the lower Duwamish cleanup can be found online.
I will be posting more photos of the demolition over the next few days.

Please wait...
