  1. We need to stop funding for these socialist organizations. Only poor people and vacation homes exist at sea level.

    Oh wait, this isn’t the Seattle Times, wrong board.

  2. Obviously we need to reduce taxes on the rich and let the poor and middle class drown.

    And more flood zone subsidies for multi-million dollar mansions near the coast!

  5. @4, exactly. The animation from about 50 seconds onward shows the two overlapping leading arcs forming a pincer and coming ashore somewhere in south-central Chile, maybe around Valdivia or below.

  7. Right. Those seattle NOAA guys and gals (lazy government scientists!) will all be furloughed after next friday if the republibaggers have their way.

About the people being swept out to sea by the tsunamis in Oregon and California: I don’t mean to sound like an asshole here, but it appears that Darwin’s Law is more to blame than any natural disaster, since apparently these folks responded to a tsunami warning by going CLOSER to the water. Brilliant!

  9. @8, I can understand the temptation, to go take pics of the tsunami. It really is like when Godzilla comes over the horizon – he seems so distant at first, so you reach for your camera instead of running….
