How the hell did AC keep a straight face through that?
2
I'd say she was dumber than a box of rocks, except that would be an insult to the rocks.
3
"It's called the Holocaust." Priceless.
4
Not even watching this video I can only say "Cut down the carbs you fat cow!"

I'll watch it later when I am properly baked for the three day weekend
5
A small part of me is in love with Stacey and her "ho-ma-sec-shalls."
6
Having moved from North Carolina long ago, I can only say she is fairly representative of (the ignorance/stupidity/enmity of) much of the population save a few small pockets of enlightened society in the urban areas and Asheville.

Thanks be to his noodly appendage that I am no longer trapped in that particular version of hell.
7
Damn "gotcha" questions. Way to twist the words of that Godly preacher Anderson Cooper! I mean c'mon...put the "facts" and "truth" and "reality" aside for once and hear what these good Christian people are saying!

Homos are bad. Period. Ok? Pssht, damned liberal media...
8
Oh my.

We need to invest more in our public schools
10
@6 And Chapel Hill! We're not idiots/douchebags!

We're all here because of UNC, though, so...there you go.

I am flabbergasted that anyone can call for what is *actually* the Holocaust and not be immediately set on fire by the media. What the hell has happened to this country o_O
11
Just to play the devil's advocate here - the pastor's plan was to segregate men and women. That would pretty much preclude reproduction among those stuck in the camps.

(I completely understand that gays are born to straight people.)
12
Joad Cressbeckler?
13
@10 I was including Chapel Hill in my mental construct of urban areas. Though it might not qualify in the rest of the country as urban, these categories tend to break down in the less-civilized parts of our dear country.

Godspeed to you. And if you ever get out of NC, let me tell you, it gets better.
15
Because the way to stop homosexual BEHAVIOR (which is what they abhor--not the homosexuals themselves, can't you understand) is to lock up gay men with what---thousands of other gay men? Yeah, that's going to stop gay sex!

And in the lesbian pens, and forgive me lesbians, but I'm thinking the WORLD'S BADDEST SOFTBALL TEAM will arise.

Full disclosure: my lesbian niece just joined a softball team and is now softball-mad, which is what made me think of it.

...and as a bonus, apparently Dick Cheney must be gay.
16
@14 Ken, I think the idea is just to keep their gay sex out of the notice of decent people. There's no logic to it outside of punishing homos for the crime of being homo. Except that they don't hate them, remember, just the Satanic behavior.
17
@8

Most fundamentalists do not send their kids to public school for fear that the secular, liberal and socialist forces of the dark lord would cause their little brains to have an original thought, I mean, sin.

So, fundies shepherd their seed off to christian school or hold them captive in home school where the environment can be thoroughly saturated with religious indoctrination and fundamentalist dogma.

No thinking aloud, just repeating.
18
I wish AC had mentioned that people are killed in the UNITED STATES in 2012 for being queer--one doesn't have to live in Iran or Iraq.

Also, I tried to comment on @4 fat-hatred. (Not sure why it hasn't shown up yet). But, to @4, STFU Discrimination against fat people is bull shit and focusing on the woman's size is bull shit. She's a dumbass, pure and simple. Calling her a "fat cow" just reveals you as a dumbass too.
19
If it's any consolation that woman has never, and never will be, laid properly.
20
Behold the American peasant class in all its finery.
21
@10, 13--I lived in Durham for 3 years, and I loved it. But I felt like I needed a passport whenever I ventured out of central Durham/Chapel Hill/Carborro/parts of Raleigh.
22
The only way I'm gonna watch this is if Cooper cunt punts her.
23
"If some people were talking about putting Jews behind electrified fences, I imagine that would be of some concern to you."

And you see her eyebrows rise to indicate "Ehn, not really a concern, actually. Gays first but..."

It's great to see mainstream news challenging backwoods bullshit.
24
@21 Yes. I spent 5 years in Durham. And it was a perfect little enclave for me -- 9th street, renovated downtown, etc. Lived right off Duke east campus. But outside the city limits, dueling banjoes, baby!

I loved Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. I miss that place every time I go to a show in Seattle.
25
@17 I really wish that were illegal. Forcing kids to go to public school might not be the greatest thing for all kids, but there are certain societal advantages to it, especially when faced with the evil useless idjits that some of these blinkered cults turn out.
26
Does she think gay men and lesbians are having sex with each other on a regular basis? That's what it sounds like when she says the men will be with the men and the women will be with the women so they can't reproduce.

Wow. My company moved it's headquarters from Louisiana to North Carolina because the owner thought they would attract a more educated workforce there. She might have been a little optimistic.
27
God, you guys. It's about the homasekshulls! Cain't you listen?
28
This would have less damning irony if AC weren't the perfect invisible gay that Anti-gay preachers wish the rest of us gays would emulate.
29
@26, @14 has it mostly right. I think the plan is either the adult homasekshulls won't tempt their poor youngun to being queer, or if they start queering on their own, you can beat it out of 'em before it sticks. Either way, in cultyland it's a brilliant, foolproof plan.
30
@ 4 - That'll shame her right into some enlightened thinking, you betcha!!
31
Ah yes, the good ole', "well, yes that's what he SAID. But he would NEVER DO what he SAID he wanted done" defense. Can't refute that sort of logically airtight argument, now can you?
32
North Carolina, meet your new Senatard.

Actually, bringing all this hatred out in the open is a positive development. No more code words, dog whistles, or crypto-fascism. Glenn Greenwald remarked years ago (2004?) that the AmeriKKKan right-wing has absolutely no positive agenda. All it has is greed and harnessing the hatred necessary to get the morans to vote in their favor.
33
The amusing thing for me is that the pastor's solution for the gays is exactly what I'd like to see happen to America's bible belt. Fence them off for the betterment of humanity.
34
Proles.
35
1. Sigh and roll eyes
2. Adopt mocking tone, as if explaining that 2+2 in fact =4
3. Wordarrhea, end with homasekshulls.
4. Pause for question.
5. Go to 1
36
I think Mitt's found his running mate.
37
I'm guessing she's not an Obama supporter.
38
@33:

Won't stop them from breeding though. We'll at least have to offer their progeny a chance to rejoin Humanity once they turn 18, although, regrettably, for many that'll mean reaching them far too late to prevent their parent's authoritarian leanings from taking hold.
39
How many pre-pubescent boys does this guy have chained up in his basement right now? 8? 12?
40
I like the part where Anderson Cooper is working out the details with the gal. Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bPFy3UeP…

(Good movie by the way)
41
that was the funniest thing at least this week.
SLOG, thank you.
42
@32 Couldn't agree more. This has always existed. When they are forced to give words to their thoughts, it brings the root of those thoughts out in the open. As we've experienced w/ SB, their religion is not about being a good human to your fellow humans: It's about accepting a hive-mind mentality so you don't have to think anymore.

People won't understand that until it's demonstrated before their eyes. As nauseating as this interview is, it is wonderful that these thoughts are given the light of day. I'm not one to scream "that's racist!" to every crass utterance, because things like this shouldn't be silenced. Like AC, it should be allowed to be given full voice so those with a heart & a brain can see those thoughts for what they are: A desire to hate.
43
Mr Cooper deserves some kind of award for remaining calm and on point. By politely asking her to see the consequences of her masters idea she kept digging in deeper. Also it was brilliance to allow her several times to speak and then cut the interview after she showed she had nothing to say. If it had gone on any longer it would have ended up looking cruel.
I wonder what the process was that ended with her deciiding to go on TV in the first place. Did a camera crew just turn up at the church doors or did they seek out a representative?
44
I don't know people like this. I'm glad I don't know people like this.
45
Don't skip to 4:50 if you haven't heard the pastor ranting about hanging homosexuals from oak trees, "God bless it," like in the old times!

How come the Old Testament also talks about the death penalty for extramarital sex but you only talk about killing homos? "Homosexuality is just wrong! And that's it!"

Well, ok...
46
The more that it's pointed out that these morons vote Republican, the better.
47
She's a moron: but...you commenters could have said as much without the sexual slurs.

And "cunt punting" -- that's a right wing tactic you should be ashamed to use, threatening sexual violence against a woman who happens to be in public.

Wasn't kosher used against Sandra Fluke, not kosher even with this idiot.
48
I was at 6:30 and like, "this isn't the real idiocy??" No, it wasn't. This lady is so ignorant, I am ashamed to be american.
49
@44 you're lucky. I'm gay, and I was raised by people like this. It's a fucking miracle I'm still alive.
50
@49: Thank FSM you're out and OK! Hoping any GLBT youth in that church can escape like you did.
51
Gluttony is a sin, too, honey.
53
@52: Gluttony and lust are both deadly sins in traditional Christian theology.
54
"Ah'm agin it. Whatever it is."

Please wait...
