#10 time to move on from that ridiculous cynical anti-hipster screed you carried on in the last thread to real life. go donate some blood or something and let the grown ups talk.
That's terrible news. I have no idea why you'd want to use this comment section for personal bullshit but my penis is bigger than your penis so quit posting stupid shit kthx.
I had a wicked crush a couple years ago on a guy who works the door sometimes. Regardless of whether or not the crush was the one shot, I wish him and the woman a very speedy recovery!
2 amazing people I know work the door there, including my significant other. I haven't been able to find out if my friend is OK. Give it a fucking hour for those whose lives were just shattered to turn it in to a gun control circle jerk. News stories are comprised of information about people - they're not just a springboard for your ignorant drivel or self righteous platitudes. If this is going to happen in our city, let's deserve better by way of our community support. If anyone knows the names of the victims, please share.
This is simply the result of the risk you take when putting yourself in harms way in a socially/mentally/economically disturbed society. But the question is, what can and will be done about it? Nothing effective so far because of the disenfranchisement at various levels that few seem to realize and understand through no-fault of their own. There are those among us who know the answers.
Mr. G, you really are a ridiculous person. And now the troll is here, wanting us to be sure we don't talk about gun control because of his significant other/friend who was supposedly there.
Why, I wonder, would one who is so concerned about a loved one suddenly rush to Slog to make sure we aren't speaking against his political agenda?
In any event, my thoughts go out to the people affected by this.
@26, @Callie B., that's what I was worried about. Are you sure it's Greg McCormick? He's a good friend of my boyfriend and me and he said/fb-posted that he was there tonight... :(
#30, I see you want to milk it to flog your political agenda. You "progressive" hipsters just love it when someone's brains get splattered somewhere. This allows you to express your "concern" and your "outrage," so you can go fix the problem. Better stop me before I laugh again!
Good job SPD doing what they had to do to stop this guy. SPD has plenty of problems to be sure. We certainly won't relent on needed reforms. But it's good to keep in mind there are people out there to sign up for a job that involves rushing into these types of situations to protect the rest of us. It's their job to confront crazy people like this, and to shoot back when they get shot at. None of us in our cozy office jobs ever have to confront a gunman and do whatever you have to do to arrest or stop him if he won't surrender peacefully. Thanks for stopping that guy SPD.
@33 The only people who make money from this carnage are your gun manufacturer puppet masters from/for whom you and your paranoid gun loving pals will go out an purchase more weapons tomorrow. The only ones calling for more weapons on the street are you and your masters. If you had your way, no effort would be made to disarm shooters like this ahead of time - instead you would call for all involved to have concealed carry permits and weapons! Freakin vampires.
Why are you here? What are you adding? What do you want?
I don't know you. I don't go to this bar, but have been there, and am a concerned citizen and reader of this paper. I'm not a hipster as you say. You're probably more of a hipster than I am.
The comments you've made here make you seem like a complete asshole. Or, you're just trying to get a rise out of people.
If you don't like The Stranger. Don't look at it. Don't make comments. Go to some other website that you like.
Otherwise, add something pertinent to the discussion. Try to say something intelligent besides just being a dick.
People were shot and hurt and killed tonight. My thoughts are with them and hoping they recover well.
We have a problem with guns and violence in this country. We have a problem with people using guns. We have a problem keeping the public safe from certain people with guns. That's not an agenda. Those are just facts.
I for one think more needs to be done to control guns and limit the bullets.
Glad SPD put the guy down. Hope those who were shot get back square on their feet.
It sounds like a good response time by the SPD. We will have to wait until the full report comes, but from the preliminary information that they have given us, it appears that their actions were justified and heroic.
It also sounds like this shooting was another domestic violence situation. Yet again, our toxic culture where men think they own women leads to violence.
Hey #36, I realize you're a stupid "progressive" who isn't even fit to suck my dick, but I guess I'll tell you anyway: I don't own a gun. Never have. But I also don't have your "progressive" hardon for every opportunity to weep. Come on, face it. You LOVE it when people get shot. The more the better for you sickos.
#37, Why are you here? What are you adding? What do you want?
I don't know you. I am a concerned citizen and reader of this paper. I'm not a pathetic hipster like you. The comments you've made here make you seem like a complete asshole. Or, you're just trying to get a rise out of people.
If you don't like my comments, don't look at them. Don't make comments. Shut the fuck up. Go to some other website. Otherwise, add something pertinent to the discussion. Try to say something intelligent besides just being a dick.
People were shot and hurt and killed tonight. All you and your "progressive" shithead friends ever do is want to use these things as cheap political stunts.
We have a problem with guns and violence in this country. We have a problem with people using guns. We have a problem keeping the public safe from certain people with guns. That's not an agenda. Those are just facts.
I for one think more needs to be done to control hipsters like you.
Glad SPD put the guy down. Hope those who were shot get back square on their feet. Hope you find a dick to suck.
God I can't believe the shit most of you spout off with. You CANNOT carry in a bar, you cannot bring a gun to an argument and even draw it or brandish it, let alone fire it in the air, or at a person that isn't an immediate threat to your life! Another CRIMINAL committing a crime. How this fits into anyone's idea as a gun control issue, your argument doesn't hold water! Your attack on the NRA is a childish response! I have never heard them endorse criminals! (Regardless if he bought the gun legally and had a CWP to carry legally, he was a criminal the moment he returned to that bar with a gun)! The majority of comments on this newspaper's article are childish at best! Grow up!
See, if everyone in the bar had the right to carry a gun into the bar this would have ended a lot differently.
@ Mister G, you must know that all your comments are a waste of space. You coming on here and calling people hipsters does nothing to further this discussion. You sound angry and ignorant. Most people here probably don't even read your posts. They are pointless, as are all your opinions, quite frankly.
Pseudo Goldy post: There was a tragedy in the Central District today where a guy shot his ex girlfriend and the doorman before being shot himself. This had all started when the shooter came in and started fighting with his ex girlfriend who had probably broken up with him. Given that we are now over 40 years into the women's lib movement as defined by the start of Ms. magazine, I think it should be noted that the ex girlfriend had probably felt freedom to break up with the shooter, and the shooter felt powerless to do anything about it. The women's lib movement is entirely to blame, and we need to destroy its value system in order to prevent tragedies like this from happening again. Women should be indentured to their man until the man tears them asunder.
/Goldy post
I felt dirty just writing that. I don't know how Goldy did it with the last post. Maybe it has to be a value you believe in. Lets try again.
Pseudo-Goldy post #2: Tonight a guy came in to the Twilight Exit and shot his ex girlfriend before being shot by SPD. Early reports have shown the couple to have recently broken up, potentially after they moved in together. Her leaving cause a situation of desperation for the shooter where he could not afford the rent, but could not move due to binding lease agreements. The rising costs of rent, especially vs the non rising salaries, caused this situation to reach a fever pitch, and these types of murders will probably occur with more frequency as things get more desperate.
/Goldy post
Nope. Still felt disgusting. Condolences to all the victims, except the shooter.
this is what Slog has come to. every shooting thread is met with 75% of the comments consisting of gun troll abuse.
@50: yes, you're right, "gun grabbers" (who haven't grabbed a single gun in decades) are hypocrites. unlike your ilk. so MM (who are not "gun grabbers" especially) should just give up, because any hypocrisy disqualifies permanently. let's just let the NRA have the only say, because they are moral.
For those making broad assumptions about the demographics of the bar's clientele: in my experience, the TE is one of the few neighborhood joints I've been to in this town that seems to have genuine mix of customers by color/age/personal style/what have you. So maybe take a deep breath and shut the fuck up for a second before sounding off, eh?
The Twilight has been my favorite Seattle bar for over 12 years (through two different moves). As such, the folks there feel like part of my community of friends. Wishing the two injured folks--esp. the door person who was injured, who I'm assuming I must have known--nothing but speedy recovery and comfort in this time of confusion and hurt.
Or maybe a few less laws. Like some of the criminal-friendly sections the NRA added to the Firearm Owners Protection Act. Or the bans on funding for doing science on the causes of gun deaths. Or the restrictions on ATF inspections of gun dealers.
David Brock? That erratic kook is one of yours. Don't blame the left for the way you wingnuts swing wildly back and forth across the political spectrum, first libeling Democrats then Republicans in your baby boomer search for your true self.
But can you help enlighten us as to the racial aspect of this shooting? We know that's what you really want to talk about.
Yo Mister G, you might find more guys to suck your dick if you weren't up till 4:30 in the morning posting on Slog. Take a shower, call your mom, and throw away that pyramid of piss-filled Coke Zero bottles stacked around your computer.
I didn't know minors were allowed in the Twilight Exit (20 year old was shot, drinking age is 21). I'll bring my 11-year-old in next time to show support for the owners. I'm wondering now if there's some Y-chromosomal mutation responsible for this hideous violence.
Poor Stephen Mollmann. First Chase Bank screws him over, then yet another gun-totin' wackadoo with nonexistent coping skills. I wonder if there are any charms against American Ills we can donate to him?
Woops, I apologize for the under-21 mistake. I got that from some bad reporting. I still feel for Mr. Mollmann and the patrons though, and wish people here knew better than to open fire in bars.
the first place i lived in seattle, when i moved here ten years ago, was the red brick apt building directly across the street from what is now the twilight exit. at that time it was the la louisiana restaurant, but the same tana market was next door. almost exactly ten years ago to the day, from the bathroom window of my place, while in the shower, i saw a man shoot another man 5 times and kill him outside the market, after hearing what was unmistakably gunshots. i watched the man begin to jog away, then stop and turn around to make sure the victim hadn't moved, before continuing to flee the scene. this was the first time i had ever seen a man die in front of my eyes from a violent assault. the police were fairly slow to show up, eventually i watched a placid cop use an orange snow shovel to scrape up some of the congealed blood after the body had been removed from the sidewalk. that night on the 11pm king5 news, there was a 2 second mention of the event, without images/video/interviews/etc., followed by a story about a little girl on the east side who had almost gotten frostbite that was a few minutes long. a little shrine was set up outside the store with flowers and candles and lots of malt liquor. later that night i watched as a couple dudes collected all the beer, and headed off with it to drink, presumably.
the following weeks were full of gunfire in the area, and it just felt really tense. i was happy to move out of that spot the following summer.
@50 - Thanks for posting that. Just another reminder about the joke of a consequence that you receive in WA State for bringing a firearm into prohibited areas. For example, if you bring a weapon into a retail store or restaurant where the owner has posted a no weapons policy? No problem - tresspass is what you would get cited for.
Time to change that. Put some teeth in there and up it to a felony.
I've only been here a couple years but I've never heard anything good about the Central District. The reputation is pretty ghetto. Is this an accurate account, or am I misinformed?
@63 - mostly misinformed. unless you consider "ghetto" to be middle/lower middle class people just living their lives. if you're ultra white-bred and running with the upper middle/upper class and living in mercer island or some shit then i'm sure it's super ghetto.
i just hope this doesn't deter people from patronizing the twilight exit. probably my favorite bar in seattle and i'd hate to see fear ruin it.
the cd is most definitely ghetto. lived there for most my life, gun shots on the reg. Not as ghetto as south park or rainier valley, but compared to queen anne or capitol hill for that matter, all you trust fund kids in seattle don't know what ghetto is. best wishes to those injured. Multiple headshots go SPD!
Just part of why I won't go to Seattle for bar hopping, etc. I am a gun owner, and carry into the bars despite the laws against it specifically because of this. It is a horrible tragedy and I can only say, good riddance that the scumbag that started shooting is dead. Condolences to those innocent people affected. Please try to look through your anger and understand that the laws against this type of thing didn't hurt anybody....all they do is hurt someone like me who would be arrested if I had to defend myself in a bar from an attack. The idiots like this will continue to do what they want with impunity, either because they don't care if they go to jail, or they intend to die when they commit these acts. Seattle is the focus of all this violence specifically because SPD refuses to contain their gang problem. The gangs congregate in Seattle, knowing SPD either won't or can't focus on these people, so they know they can operate with impunity.
I was there. It had nothing to do w/ nra it was just a domestic problem gone wrong the exgf was high and drunk she left her 9 month old home alone to go to the bar. The guy James was beside himself as she had his home burglarized and his dog killed they had the child in common he had an order of restraint against her she lied put all of us patrons in harms way and til the end she denied knowing him. He said, his life was over because of the pain she had caused him. He wanted her to feel his pain it is still not right he threatened and scared us. I don't know what to say my life flashed before me before I kicked the exit door open and fled to he'd off the cops with a description. This was after he fired four shots I thought he had shot everyone in the back bar. I saw him he was serious. He can rest now he is away from that skank liar I hope she never gets to see her kid.
I wonder if reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act would've help prevent the incident. If this guy had enough rage to shoot his girlfriend, then she probably experienced other kinds violence and intimidation due to his sexism.
The real problem is that those among us with the answers and workable solutions to this type of violence are speaking upon deaf ears in our society. This ranges from the highest of policy-makers right down to the individual/s who perpetrate the action itself. Behaviors are shaped by unseen and unacknowledged policies in my research and experienced opinion. These policies exclude critical factors relative to the needs of the people involved.
@70: Your friend James sounds like such a lovely person, what with the shooting people and all. After all what choice did he have? So worried about his baby! Of course the only logical thing he could do as a loving parent is try to kill the mother of his child, and go to prison or be killed himself. Yes, yes, so completely justified.
@68: As a gun owner let me just say:
Yes please, stay put. Nobody needs armed dickheads full of beer and paranoia in their bars. I once caught some one like you on the dance floor of the old Vogue and we had three bouncers on him ASAP. It was a pleasure watching his ass get tossed. So yes, if you feel the need to drink while armed stay the fuck home.
#70 - She is not responsible for him. Yes, she may also be a piece of work but he was abusive. That is why he shot some perfectly innocent guy and opened fire in a bar. He should have called the cops on her for abandoning the child but he did not. Instead he opended fire in a bar full of innocent people. She did not push him to do that. He allowed himself to be pushed to that point. That's what happens when you keep trying to get an asshole to change.
At All, That is not what I was saying he was not my friend I was saying that She lied and put us all in harm this is what she did to him to make him crazy time and time again he had a restraining order against her and he chose not to press charges and send her to jail. He was trying but her alcoholic and chemical problem drove him to this our State our City failed us by not taking that child away and not pressing charges. This is why we were in harms way. I don't justify the gun issue at all but where are families where are friends morals and accountability our world has gone to shit! You were not there don't judge I thought I was going to die!
@77: Forgive me, but doesn't a restraining order presume that one does not wish to be in the vicinity of some one? And yet......he sought her out. And shot a total stranger to get to her. Bad mother she may be. Bad person she may be. But of all the choices he had available to him he picked the absolute worst one and it was no one else's fault but his own.
I am very sorry that you were there. I'm sure it was more awful than we can imagine, and I hope you have people in your life that can hold you close.
He is my cousin u bastards. He did a terrible thing and paid with his life. She left their baby at home. They were together but she didn't want to be a mom. He called crying wanting help on what to do. She is not a good mother, she isn't ready to be one and he just was loosing it trying to keep his family together. My thoughts and love go out to those affected but please only state facts u know because James was and always will be family.
@81 I'm sorry for your loss. Having this happen while the issue of gun violence is so prominent in the national media must be doubly hard. Thank you for speaking publicly on the matter.
Forgiveable mistake, given the horrible news.
GOD DAMN IT
eat shit you massive waste of oxygen.
