Are you kidding me?. Do you realize that while you are bothering those officers with questions designed to annoy them there are numerous calls waiting to be handled. Do you also realize that advertising the officer's pictures and names that you are jeporedizing their safety. I can not tell you how many times death threats are made. It is clear that you are biased against any police department and therefore are not a credible reporter. You make no attempt to check further into this officer"s real history with the department and prior judgements about punishment. You and people like you have tied the departments hands thus creating an environment in Seattle that has allowed crime to soar. If the citizens continue to tear apart and castrate the police you will get what you created!!!!

Saulet and Marion should be made to turn their badges in, and not get unemployment.

THIS is what journalism should be, not about providing cover to politicians or any public servant. It is about telling all points of a story without rooting for one side or the other. This when clearly you have a strong point of view, but pointed out good/bad on both sides. All I really want are the full unfiltered facts, it is rare any of us get this today in the "Mainstream" media. Good show!

Wouldn't this fall under RCW 9A.36.070?

RCW 9A.36.070

Coercion.

(1) A person is guilty of coercion if by use of a threat he or she compels or induces a person to engage in conduct which the latter has a legal right to abstain from, or to abstain from conduct which he or she has a legal right to engage in.

(2) "Threat" as used in this section means:

(a) To communicate, directly or indirectly, the intent immediately to use force against any person who is present at the time; or

(b) Threats as defined in *RCW 9A.04.110(27) (a), (b), or (c).

(3) Coercion is a gross misdemeanor.

If an officer is lying to you about what you can and can't do isn't that called Coercion?

Police are uneducated MORONS that should get the DEATH PENALTY when they misuse their power. There is NOTHING a civilian can do if mistreated. If you are in a position of power/authority and misuse that power/authority, you should be punished to the maximum/most extreme extent of the law (in some states DEATH).

If the punishment for assaulting/killing a police officer is higher than that against a regular civilian, then when they FUCK UP they should have the hammer brought down on them.

I HATE THEM ALL.

311
@4 - Correct.

@309 - No, it's not coercion. It is:
RCW 9A.80.010
Official misconduct.
(1) A public servant is guilty of official misconduct if, with intent to obtain a benefit or to deprive another person of a lawful right or privilege:
(a) He or she intentionally commits an unauthorized act under color of law; or
(b) He or she intentionally refrains from performing a duty imposed upon him or her by law.
(2) Official misconduct is a gross misdemeanor.

Know Your Rights: Photographers

Know Your Rights: Photographers
Taking photographs of things that are plainly visible from public spaces is a constitutional right – and that includes federal buildings, transportation facilities, and police and other government officials carrying out their duties. Unfortunately, there is a widespread, continuing pattern of law enforcement officers ordering people to stop taking photographs from public places, and harassing, detaining and arresting those who fail to comply. Your rights as a photographer:

When in public spaces where you are lawfully present you have the right to photograph anything that is in plain view. That includes pictures of federal buildings, transportation facilities, and police. Such photography is a form of public oversight over the government and is important in a free society.

- When you are on private property, the property owner may set rules about the taking of photographs. If you disobey the property owner's rules, they can order you off their property (and have you arrested for trespassing if you do not comply).

- Police officers may not generally confiscate or demand to view your photographs or video without a warrant. If you are arrested, the contents of your phone may be scrutinized by the police, although their constitutional power to do so remains unsettled. In addition, it is possible that courts may approve the seizure of a camera in some circumstances if police have a reasonable, good-faith belief that it contains evidence of a crime by someone other than the police themselves (it is unsettled whether they still need a warrant to view them).

- Police may not delete your photographs or video under any circumstances.

316
How about minding your own business and stop trying to provoke police officers just so you can get a story?

This is all cool and stuff but you should get some Instagram filters for your camera. Shots would be way much cooler.
319
I have never seen so many anonymous OMG YOUR SUCH A PUSSY DOM Y DONT U RESPECK THE BADGE comments on one thread before. Cops aren't very good at this online thing.
320
There was nothing to see there, so the reporter should have moved along and not been such a pain with all of the questions and pictures. And then he whined because the cop told him that he would do the same thing to him at his work. Whahhhh.

I hope the cops tase the crap out of this reporter next time. Tosser.

@320: "I was riding my bike past Fourth Avenue South and South Jackson Street at about 7:25 p.m. last night when I saw several officers huddled around a young black man sitting down. The cops were speaking loudly at him...the officers started barking louder at the man."

This reads as nothing to see there to you? And also see @52 here:

Get rid of the USELESS UNIONS = get rid of the USELESS COPS! It goes hand in hand. The asshole cops are protected by their fucking unions and it needs to change.
324
I saw some cops harassing a girl one time who looked homeless. I went up and said "I am a soldier, I know I have a right to be here", then told the girl to go ahead and walk away while I waited because she obviously had done nothing wrong. Lucky me... they didn't press it further and let her go. Tell You what... I was really scared! Didn't show it though... and what a miracle that it worked. They were obviously irritated.
325
Very nice! Follow through with the complaint and i'm glad your article is getting exposure! Cops need to respect law abiding citizens and stop treating us like we're their enemy. They have too much power and it has gone to their heads. All I can say is if you are brave enough to stand up for your rights, make sure you got a camera rolling somewhere (not that you should even have to!!!). Too many cops are bad apples.
326
Hope you forwarded a copy of both complaints to DOJ. Good Luck.
328
I'm surprised at the fearful response of the SPD. Why are they so terrified?
329
Go to YouTube and search for SamWiseGingy, there you find a video called "is this a crime" and several others that show police telling citizens that is illegal to film them even though it is not.

Excellently done Mr. Holden. Ever since I was mildly harassed by police as a young (around 10 years old) kid, I have a real problem with this low-level bullying. I am white, and I was raised in a reasonably nice suburb and therefore never really even thought about police. However, when I was visiting a friend downtown and walked to the 7-11 to get candy, I found out what the other half (probably way more than that, actually) has to deal with on a regular basis. We were patted down, asked for ID (which we didn't have as 10 year-olds), and ordered to go home and not come back out. It was still daylight, I still don't really know what was going on.

Anyways, I am now a lawyer and am champing at the bit to get a case dealing with actionable police misconduct. I know it's an uphill battle, but I believe fighting it is the only change to enact real change in the generally overly-agressive population that makes up the police forces around the country. I know I know, bad apples etc. However, all of my experience leads me to think that it is more reasonable to believe that there might be a good apple or so, but I have yet to deal with one. So, again, thank you.

I've had too numerous examples of this exact treatment. I've been called all sorts of things by the police. They always try to escalate, and intimidate. I believe that the steroid use by police officers and hiring of vets is the root of the problem. The behaviour is an expression of how much they despise people. They are bullies. That's why they act like bullies. Steroids causes the exact type of behaviour we see and hear about. They are the least UA'd organization in the US. They are aware of this problem but do nothing about it. Look it up.
333
This bully with a badge behavior is so typical, not only SPD, Renton police, and a lot of other policing forces. I am more afraid of the bad guys with a badge than I am the other bad guys. I think these people are actually trained to escalate and like the other people in our society who behave badly (banks, wall street) they probably get bonuses for it. Suspension with pay, yeah paid vacation!

@329, thanks for the tip on SamWiseGingy. That dude's a nutter and a half! Vids are hilarious.

All I am reading in your article is, I bet, I guess, not one frigging concrete or accurate accusation. If you are second
guessing the presence of our police force, please second guess a situation without it.

We live in a totally different society today than when i was a kid. The police today are more like the Nazi Brown Shirts from the Pre-Nazi elections in Germany. They also used intimidation and threats and sometimes even more if they could get away with it.

Today where I live, As a group of lawful citizens have decided that the way to combat this is to stay in numbers and luckily in our state we have an Open Carry Law. We all openly carry firearms on our persons in groups of 5-10 at one time. We shop together, go out to eat together and do a lot of things together. At first people rebelled against us.Then they took that law to court. The court said we are totally within our rights to openly carry ANYWHERE in the state. Even in to a Public BAR as long as we do not consume any alcohol. The no guns allowed except on federal courthouse or school property still stands. But the local police got the message that we are the ones paying their salary and we will do what the LAW tells us we can not what they want. They now have a totally different attitude. They are respectful, polite and friendly. Why? Because having loaded .357 on your hip is an indication that you are a lawful American Citizen who will not have his or her rights stepped on by someone who only has a badge. When our team of shooters went to a challenge shoot their score was 385 out of 500. Our score was 477 out of 500 they were not too pleased that civilians could out shoot them both with pistols and rifles. That earns you respect. it also earned them a lot more time at their own range. Recently a close friend who is an officer photographed one of their officers who had photos of some of us pasted to targets on their range that they were training with. When the newspaper got a hold of the story several officers were fired on the spot for doing this. it was called discriminatory target training. in other words they were training to photo stimulus muscle memory training based on our faces.
This is what DHS is doing today. they are actually using random photos of "Average Americans" (including one lady who was 8 months pregnant, who had a gun in her hand) with a gun as a form of muscle memory training. We are facing an internal nationwide issue of those powers being used against us without question. The reason being is conditioned response of the public to Nazi like interrogations so it becomes routine and will go unquestioned as time goes by. More and more like the Soviet Union used to be with the KGB.
Citizens there never questions the actions of the KGB or they ended up in some gulag somewhere. This is the intent of these police today. This is how they are being trained to respond. Although you may think otherwise it is an actual fact. Did you know that DHS trains our police to look at our founding fathers as Terrorists? That is an actual fact as well. They refer to Washington, Jefferson, Franklin , Paine and many others as American Terrorists and that the U.S. Constitution & the Bill of Right are the same as a Marxist Manifesto.
This is what is coming for America as each day passes. I could go on and show you many many examples and solid proof. There is even a copy of the DHS police training video on YouTube. Check it out and see for yourself. All i can say is Stay Frosty my friends....

Title 42 section 1983 federal suit for rights violations.

No Dominic - you were being a dick. Cops have to put up with crap with dicks like you all the time.

You INTERJECTED yourself into the situation to further your own agenda with the SPD.

I just saw the King 5 News story and good reporters would have followed the cop's instructions. You just wanted to stick your nose into police business, stir the pot and turn it into a story, simple as that.

But of course when you need help and they come to provide it for you, you'll probably complain about that too!

341
Saulet is just a little pussy who needs his ass beat. He better mind the law himself or several citizens who follow him and monitor his actions daily will perform a citizens arrest on him.
