@5 Considering the Fox & O'Reilly tags in her tweets, she's not doing a lot of introspection or analysis. Just parroting whatever is said to her from the pulpit (TV).
I love McCain's flip flop, too. Shannon is just a talking bobble-head, but McCain is a senator and former POW. You'd think he'd be a little more consistent.
Let's face it, if President Obama were to end world hunger, or single-handedly halt Global Climate Change, or magically eliminate all nuclear weapons, the GOP would still find something to criticize. It's been their sole strategy since he took office.
Finally, a Slog post about Bergdahl. This is an easy ones for liberals (or at least independent thinkers) - The Taliban has one of our soldiers, we have a bunch of theirs, we're not doing anything with ours and we have to release them at some point anyway, and we have a responsibility to our soldiers to do what we can to bring them back. Boom. Just like that. It's an easy deal and everyone is happy... unless, as everyone's pointing out, you want to oppose every little think Obama does a priori, plus you're in the middle of an election and in need of a marketable controversy, since Obamacare is running dry and Benghazi didn't really take. It's all bullshit, Republicans are showing their true ideology-before-soldiers colors, and they'll look like unpatriotic clowns in the long run.
The # 1 problem with this bullshit reaction is that they are calling these Taliban members "terrorists". No the Taliban are not terrorists since terrorists are not, by definition, state actors. The Taliban are the group that ran Afghanistan until we overthrew them. They were the government and, thus, state actors.
We DID NOT just release five terrorists. We released five enemy POWs for our own POW which is what you do when you are winding down a war, as we are currently doing.
This is an absolutely nothing story. The people that are now attacking this American soldier are traitors. Nothing more and nothing less.
I say this as someone who despises the Taliban for everything they stand for and for their crimes against humanity, especially for what they did to Afghanistan women after they took power.
If this embarrassed Bush, Republicans would be screaming "Lets not play the blame game".
they love the Duck Dynasty idiots' beards though - those are totally cool.
"I was cool with it when I thought it would just be 2 low-level Taliban, but 5 senior leaders? for one American grunt? OUTRAGEOUS!"

I'm not adept at negotiating with terrorists though. due to lack (zero) of experience.
