This dark week was a reminder that it matters who we elect to speak for us at the national level—a whole hell of a lot. And if you live in Seattle, you probably already know that the guy who speaks for you in the US House of Representatives is named Jim McDermott. He’s a Democrat and he’s been Seattle’s voice in DC for the last 26 years. Well, for the first time in a long time McDermott has a serious challenger for his seat: Brady Walkinshaw, the state representative from Seattle’s Capitol Hill who announced last week that he’s going to try to unseat McDermott in 2016. On this week’s show, I talk to both McDermott and Walkinshaw about why they want to be the one to represent you.

After that I talk to The Stranger’s Heidi Groover about why you should be paying attention to a bunch of semi-obscure Sound Transit maps right now. We’ll be voting on a new Sound Transit package in 2016, but if you’re concerned about what, exactly that package is going to look like—well, you need to listen to Heidi.
