On Tuesday, September 20 at 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of 1st Avenue West and West Republican Street, a woman called 911 after allegedly witnessing an “intense conversation” among five men end with one of them unconscious on the ground.
According to her statement recorded in SPD Officer Denherder’s report, “The unknown suspect punched [the victim] in the face causing [him] to go unconscious and fall to the ground. [He] then hit his head on the concrete sidewalk.” At this point, the 911 caller intervened, but she got a snarky response from one of the suspects: “He’s fine, he’s drunk.” The suspects walked away.
When police asked the victim—whose jaw was broken—which man assaulted him, he replied, “He’ll kill me if I tell you.”
