Okay, okay, we get it! You hated the captcha and change is the worst thing in America unless it’s coming from Obama. But please, children, behave. If you want to test out the new comment feature on Slog, please do so here in this open thread. And let’s be nice about it, okay?
Don’t test the comments in another post, unless you have something specific to say about that post. Let’s at least try to stay on topic elsewhere.
So post some comments and see how you like it. And if you have any problems, questions, and/or constructive criticism about the changes, feel free to e-mail me at megan@thestranger.com. We want you to enjoy Slog, really, we do! But this is not a sandbox. Let’s play nice.
Please? And thank you. I’d hate to have to take away your Slog Happy privileges.

re: #199
The 1st link replaced the comments page with the link (which sucks), but the 2nd link opened a new tab in the main window (which I like).
I don’t know why that is (I suck at linking), but they should keep the latter and ditch the former. At least it remembers my email now, and editing is easier.
#202 – i prefer the links to open in another window or tab too, but all i’m doing is typing in the addresses. maybe i need to include the http so they will open in another tab – an experiment:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppies
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppies
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co…
hence, if you put the full URL the link will open in a new tab: http://www.thestranger.com vs. thestranger.com
forget #204. let’s try:
http://www.cnn.com/
vs cnn.com
Hey guys, you can calm down about the html and link issues. You can tell they’re slowly transitioning to something like the Mercury’s comment system. Hopefully. That means user registration and avatar images and html and links and even profiles where you can add Slog friends. It’s pretty cool. I think they needed to make these changes that don’t look like a big deal to us to make the foundation of the new system. Or maybe they just wanted to get rid of our blockquotes.
#202 – apparently stranger links will open in the same comments window, but other sites will open in a new tab or window. at least they are for me.
@203 – 205:
Totally inconsistent. Some of the urls open in new tabs (in Chrome) while some open in the comments tab; but using the http or www prefixes don’t seem to have any relevance in terms of which open where.
what is captcha? is this something the kids do nowadays? i just got back from san francisco, which is enjoying lovely weather, which i enjoyed from my rooftop penthouse hotel room in north beach. i was chauffeured home from seatac in a towncar. in yo’ FACE, bitches!
Thanks for sending Palin back to Alaska!

Asteria, following any of the sample links you provided results in my browser (Firefox 3.0.3 on GNU/Linux) doing *precisely* what it should do any time I follow a link — opens in in the current window/tab. Slog: If I want to open a link in a new tab/window, I’ll middle-click or shift-click, or choose “open in new window” from a context menu. *Please* don’t break this long-standing WWW convention.
@206 FTW.
Also, when using the mobile view, following the link for a particular comment leads to some strange place.
For instance, the target for the 212 link is http://slog.thestranger.com/seattle/blog… . Following that link leads to:

Okay now I have to see what’s different
Man, I really hope you guys have some DIY thing and are not paying for whatever software runs Slog. This is ridiculous.
What’s wrong with, say, WordPress and whatever comment plugins make it do what you need? Cost: $0. Count of people who would know how to keep it running for you: Tens of thousands.
what
wouldn’t a Linux-based system have worked better?
and my this is forgetful – the old one remembered my screen name and email in Firefox …
has anything really changed?
How can I quote the relevant part of the post I’m responding to w/o html?
it’s definitely slower…
and after i edited my comment to add more it didn’t show up…
The bicycle art thingy was a good idea. Wait, which thread is this?
@209:
I ALWAYS take town cars home from Sea-Tac; they’re the same price as a cab, and no waiting in the stinking taxi line with the other plebes. Besides, I love to see the look on people’s faces when that black , tinted-window sedan pulls up at the END of the taxi line, and you step in, like you’re somebody important!
I’m not of course, just smart. But, that counts for something…
Hmmmmm. Let’s see this new-fanglry work.
testing, 1, 2, 3. . .
something moderately offensive.
captcha allows google to track comments independent of thestranger.com … #224’s going to get ads for bicycle art … i’m going to get ads for google!
@230 FTW!
blah blah
do you eat the tails of tempura shrimp?
Does my eye look fucked up to you guys?

And no, I don’t feel like letting it go.
I’m boycotting SLOG unless this link works.
@ 232 – does your rectum have a grister?
What the fudge?
I have no particular problem with the redesigned comment interface, but it sure would be nice if you could redirect the old URLs to the new ones. I had to add the new address in my feed reader, and I now have a bunch of broken bookmarks.
i’m not so sure about this.
ugh. Definitely don’t like it.
If I edit the comment after entering my name and e-mail address it refreshes and I have to reenter name and address. That’s broken.
@241 FTW!
