Local author Elissa Washuta looks a little too young to be publishing a memoir, but My Body Is a Book of Rules proves it’s not the miles on the engine that matter, it’s the wear on the tires. Uh, or whatever. Ill-considered car metaphors aside,Rules is a fascinating collection of diary entries, IM conversations, bibliographies, imaginary Law & Order: Special Victims Unit scripts, and other genre-bursting exercises. It’s a scrapbook of Washuta’s bipolar roller-coaster life, and her inventiveness is so assured, it’s hard to believe this is her first book. (Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave, hugohouse.org, 7 pm, free)
