Wicked & Wild
(DANCEHALL NIGHT) For those not in the know, dancehall is a form of Jamaican rap that in the past was exported to the top of the American pop charts by Shabba Ranks (and currently is exported by Sean Paul). Dancehall is not reggae; it has a completely new and different groove. In fact, many traditional reggae musicians find dancehall to be decadent and shallow, as it lacks the revolutionary content of earlier types of Jamaican pop. Dancehall is about the dance floor--pure and simple.(Thursday nights, Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 9 pm, $5. ) CHARLES MUDEDE

Fucking Fab Film Fest
(INDIE MOVIES AND MUSIC) With 30 films shown over three days, and a little live music, this event is a great way to catch budding cinematic and musical talent in a lowbrow setting. My recommendation: Jerk Beast: The Movie (Friday at 9 pm, Saturday at midnight). Created by the glue-huffing minds of Brady Hall and Calvin (Lee) Reeder (from the Popular Shapes), this movie about a cable access crew turned touring punk band (headed by a large, cranky beast) is even more wack than Polterchrist (which screens Thursday evening). Also check out Thuglife Baldwin, who rocks The Bar at midnight. (Coffee Messiah, 1554 E Olive Way, 861-8233; The Bar, corner of Olive Way and Denny Way. Thurs-Sat Aug 14-16, www.lot11pictures.com for full schedule, $5 adv, $8 DOS. ) JENNIFER MAERZ
Booze Cruise
(BANDS AND BOATS) Kinda like The Love Boat, only minus the sleeping quarters (so hold your liquor), the I Sunk Your Battleship cruise is the luxury craft to overtake this evening. Instead of Isaac, your entertainment this evening comes from Hint Hint's angular electro punk, Tourist's awesomely heavy shoegazer rock, and Problem with Heroes' melancholy, melody-heavy indie rock. An excellent lineup even if it wasn't floating around the Sound on a double-decker, two-bar boat (with a DJ). Moving venues like this don't pop up too often, so get on board! (Lady Mary, Pier 55, boat loads at 8 pm and departs at 8:45 pm, $15. Tickets available at the Sureshot coffee shop in the U-District, or at www.isunkyourbattleship.com. ) JENNIFER MAERZ

'Project 18: Verge'
(INSTALLATION ART) "Site specific" is a term that has been roundly abused to excuse otherwise meaningless work set into a particular venue, but every year Katie Kurtz's Project 18 takes the concept apart and rebuilds it. This year, Kurtz has gathered a rather unusual group of people to investigate and meditate on the meaning of Sand Point's Building 18 (the future home of artist studios and a gallery), and how an art venue is developed. With a gorgeous interrupted staircase of tiny welded rods by Lead Pencil Studio, a swirling cloud of feathers by Charles McHale, a take-away disc of site recordings by The Stranger's music writer Christopher DeLaurenti, and others. (Opening reception Sat Aug 16, 7 pm, Building 18, Sand Point Magnuson Park, 522-9529. Through Sept 14. ) EMILY HALL

Hempfest
(ANNOY ASHCROFT) Now in its 12th year, Hempfest is the largest marijuana-law reform rally in the world. The first event attracted just over 500 stoners; last year the festival brought more than 175,000 pot users and drug-war foes. This is the social justice issue of our times; by showing up and adding to the numbers, you can help make a statement about the War on Drugs--it's time to end it!--while enjoying live music, glassy-eyed speakers, and lots of great chow. (Myrtle Edwards Park, Pier 70. Sat-Sun Aug 16-17. Go to www.hempfest.org for information. ) DAN SAVAGE

Wine
(CHEAP GOOD WINE) On Monday nights, all bottles on Tango's wine menu are half the listed price. Let me break this down for you: A $40 bottle of wine is now only $20! Or better yet, a $30 bottle of wine is just $15! Sadly, because there is no such thing as a good $15 bottle of wine in the city of Seattle (except at the grocery or liquor store), you will not enjoy a practically free bottle of wine on Monday night. But we can't have everything; we must be content with (indeed, even celebrate) what is so generously offered by the folks at Tango: a $15 dollar bottle of decent dry or sweet Spanish wine. (Tango Tapas Restaurant & Lounge, 1100 Pike St, 583-0382. Open daily 5:30-11 pm, full bar 5 pm-2 am. ) CHARLES MUDEDE

'Road to Morocco' & 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God'
(ABSURD DOUBLE FEATURE) Too many double bills are obviously linked--horror with horror, director with director, etc. --which is why this coupling is a rare gem. Both films are special in their own way, and one could make a link (of sorts) between their settings in exotic locales. But there is really very little the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby classic and the Werner Herzog classic have in common, outside of the fact that they're both... well, classics. So why not trek through the desert with Hope and Crosby first, then search for El Dorado with wacko Klaus Kinski to end the evening? Or, on the weekends, vice versa? (Grand Illusion, 1403 NE 50th St, 523-3935. Road to Morocco plays Fri-Thurs Aug 15-21 at 7 pm, with early shows Sat-Sun at 3 pm; Aguirre plays the same dates, with shows at 9 pm and early shows Sat-Sun at 5 pm. $7. ) BRADLEY STEINBACHER

Divine Justice
(RUMMAGE SALE/ANTHROPOLOGICAL DIG) Here is a partial list of things I found at the ongoing and cavernous rummage sale at the corner of Denny and Olive: the Never Say Diet Book by Richard Simmons, a miniature pool table, perfume bottles, old cell phones, a witch's hat, a really very groovy little white purse with a sunset scene on it, a couple of God's eyes, ancient computers, pulp novels, and restaurant booths. Then there are things that you pick up, turn over, stare at--and still you don't know what they are. Staring at objects we can't divine the use for nudges this heap of discarded things, however faintly, toward art. (420 E Denny Way; every day, 10 am-10 pm. ) EMILY HALL
