I feel like I just woke up in the Merry Olde Land of Oz, because -- rub your eyes and get out of bed -- another over-21 club is throwing its hat into the all-ages ring. For the month of February, Sit & Spin has a Kill Rock Stars showcase scheduled, starring Gene Defcon, Frenchie and the German Girls, Lois, C Average, Bangs, and the Thrones; a great show with Les Savy Fav and Love As Laughter; the all-ages premiere of Dave Larsen's punk vs. straight-edge film Edge of Quarrel followed by a set by Kill Sadie; and an evening with Logicprobe, Blood Brothers, and the Catheters. These shows are presented by dedicated Old Redmond Firehouse booker Kate Becker as part of the Northwest All Ages Show Association (NAASA), which promises many more all-ages shows (including another KRS showcase) at the Sit & Spin. Perhaps there's hope for this burg yet.

Reuters reported on Jan 20 that Geffen Records is suing Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson as principal members of Hole, claiming that the band still owes the label five albums as part of a 1992 recording agreement. Doll Head Inc. (the corporation through which Hole handles their business affairs) owns the exclusive recording services of Love and Erlandson, and has countered that California labor law limits "personal services contracts" to seven years. Geffen says that a recording contract does not a personal services agreement make, and besides, the blond duo signed a letter agreeing that they would become obligated to Geffen if Doll Head failed to deliver. Perhaps Erlandson's days of collecting the big bucks while sitting on his keister as Love makes movies and records an occasional cover song are over. I don't know about you, but I think it's high time we see whether big Eric has got a little Dave Grohl in him....

As for Courtney, former Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten took a shot at her on the Sunday premiere of VH1's Rotten Television, calling her a "cheap fake," probably about the same time the ridiculously dressed Love was taking her own cheap shots at Madonna ("the short one finally has a song I like") and Phil Collins at the Golden Globes. Phil shouldn't have won, but still, show some grace for crying out loud. And for God's sake, Courtney: Enough with the tits.

"After six years, two major label deals and countless memorable performances," began the sad press release, "the members of Goodness have decided to leave that band behind and move ahead with other projects." Yes, it's true. Goodness is no more. But fret not -- the resignation of any Seattle rock band is sure to be followed by a flurry of related projects, and the demise of Goodness is no different. Singer Carrie Akre is finishing a solo album as well as a collaboration with Smithereen Pat DiNizio, called the VIPS. Drummer Chris Friel and guitarist Danny Newcomb join Pearl Jam's Mike McCready in the Rockfords, whose album comes out February 1 on Epic. Guitarist Garth Reeves and Friel also play in Blue Spark. Former bassist Fiia McGann continues to play in Miracle Baby, and is expecting her own baby this spring.

And speaking of bundles of joy, busy local music man Skerik and partner Lisa recently welcomed baby girl Koko into the world.
